I watched your analysis on the Texas tornados this morning. You appeared to be right on calling that an EF-2. Don’t know if I ever told you, but I was one of the first people to start the Tornado chasing program at the University of Oklahoma back in the early 1970s. We even had Dr. Fujita come speak to us right after he invented the F scale. I sure wish I could still find some of the pics and footage I shot chasing back in those days. The only thing we had was our guts and two way radios.

I never like hearing about such a widespread storm track. The property damage must be horrendous yet cars, buildings and homes can be repaired or even replaced. What I pray for is that no one was injured or worse! People are not so easily repaired and not one person can be replaced.

We are having quite a situation here in Upstate New York. We are in an EXTREME fire danger due to very, very low relative humidity with steady winds and no rain. Fire danger is based on a scale from class 1 to 5 with 5 being the worst. I just spoke with the nearest regional forest ranger and every one of his rangers is on fires as we speak. He also said we are in a Class 5 category.

The wind is also fanning a severe multi building structure fire in Johnstown, NY 35 miles northwest of here. A tanning mill has eight of their buildings involved in this fire and the winds are pushing the flames into the neighborhood next to the mill. We are not dealing with devastating storms, but Mother Nature is giving us an equally difficult batch of problems too.
