It’s Friday…and the weather is your fault!!
Hey Good Morning!
And Happy Friday! We made it through another workweek…and a busy weather week as well. Lots to talk about – first off, I have to vent a little bit…
I was in the elevator this morning getting ready for my first weather hit with Megyn and Bill — I was joined by someone that works in the building, and who I see time to time (I don’t know him too well though, so maybe be was just having a bad day). I say hello – and he launches into “ It’s your fault that my weekend is ruined! Why does it always rain on the weekends????” I didn’t quite know what to say except “It was beautiful here all week long — and last week as well!” and then he says: “Yeah – well I’m in a building all day – so it doesn’t count!”
What the????????????????????
Anyway, I know fellow local weather forecasters can commiserate about people like this – I’ve heard and seen actual letters/emails they get every week about how it’s the forecasters fault that social events/weddings/outdoor activities were ruined. It’s something that goes with the territory I guess!
Ugh. I digress.
We had another bad night last night of severe weather. 9 reports of tornadoes. Most of them in Northern Kansas where one tornado was reported to be 1/2 a mile wide. We unfortunately are going to see more dangerous storms today and tonight from Texas up to the Great Lakes. The flooding is widespread as rivers just can’t take anymore rain. On the cold side of this storm, 6-12 inches of snow will fall from the Eastern Dakotas into Minnesota! Winds of up to 40 mph will also cause blizzard-like conditions. Eeeek!
Once again, here’s a peak at all the weather advisories in effect right now.
Ok – one more thing to share. A couple of you have mentioned Scott’s blog. Scott is racing in the MS 150 race in Dallas in honor of myself and others that suffer from MS. I was going to join him next week to meet him in person and cheer him on along the route since he is doing such a great thing for all those who have or know someone with this crazy disease. Unfortunately something has come up and I have to go back home next week. A very dear friend of mine has gotten very sick, and is not doing very well, so I’m going to go and visit with him instead during my time off. As I get older (and wiser) I realize life can change in an instant. As much as I would love to be with Scott, and bring more awareness to MS, I need to go back and see my friend. Many thanks again to Scott and his racing crew for doing such a wonderful thing each and every year for us who have joined the MS Club…
Ok – that’s all for now. I just heard a great story on Happening Now about a Chilly Penguin that I’m going to share with you shortly! It’s adorable…

Wow Janice…Its sad that people really take it out on others who really have no control of the weather..
I promise to give you credit only for the good weather….the bad weather I will just let it be Mother Nature doing what she does …..
Have a great weekend….And I will send positive energy and prayers to your friend and their family etc….
There is never enough of that kind energy like that….
Have a great weekend everyone….
Thanks Dawn! I didn’t take it too personally, I just couldn’t believe he was mad – and directing it at me!
Thanks for your kind words too…
That really is hard to believe. I bet forecasters get a lot of that every day, though there’s no reason why they should. I’d like to see someone with that attitude try to do your job for just a day. Maybe he’d see how difficult it could be. Predicting what the weather will do throughout the week (and even just one day at a time) takes a very smart person, and you do a wonderful job of it! I’ll be praying that your friend recovers very soon. Hope the rest of your weekend is fantastic!!!
Hey Forest! Thank you for your support! I can’t believe the weekend is over already…
When people want to blame you for the weather, just tell them that you neither create nor control it and you can’t even predict it 100% of the time. You are just in the job of reporting it to the best of your ability. If they want to complain, they need to take it up the chain of command. Besides, rainy weekends can be really great too! Since we’ve had a couple of years of below average rainfall here in the South, I have promised to never complain about rain again.
Hope you have a wonderful weekend! I’ll probably be helping take care of babies this weekend. Life is good!

Gwen, you’re right! And this weekend wasn’t all that bad weather-wise…a little gloomy – but that’s about it. Hope your weekend was great with the little ones!
Oh Janice, I’m so sorry about your friend. Life is so very fragile! Praying for him and his family and for safe travels for you as you go to visit him.
Thanks Lynn. I’m hoping and praying for a miracle…they do happen sometimes.
JD……
Here’s what I usually say to people that do that…..
With a big smile (0f course)…..Oh you’re just jealous you don’t have the weather job. I wish we could make the weather, but instead we get to try and the best part is that even if we’re wrong, we get to keep our job and no one can sue us for it. I don’t think anyone I’ve ever told that to has not laughed WITH me and forgotten all about it.
Bless you and I’m sure you are a great friend. Tell your friend we are thinking about him, yes all the way from Colorado. Tell your hubby what a lucky guy he is to have a wonderful woman with her priorities straight. I wish all friends were that thoughtful, to be there for them when needed most.
Have a wonderful weekend JD.
Sunny
That’s a good come-back Sunny! I will remember it…Thank you for your wonderful support. I look forward to seeing him this week. He’s a special person that doesn’t deserve to be sick.
Hey JD,
I’m sorry to hear about your friend, it’s not the way you wanted to visit at home I’m sure.
As for the man in the elevator……well that is typical in the northeast during the pleasant months. Doesn’t he realize that is Mother Nature’s usual pattern, GREAT WEATHER during the week and garbage on the weekend. Or at least it always seems that way.
As I said to you before you should say; ” I’m only the messenger”.
Hey Bill — and as I mentioned to Dawn — it wasn’t even that bad this weekend! Tomorrow will be a big puddle! Good for the grass though…and the flowers too!
Hey Janice,
Don’t worry about the grouchy man in the elevator..sounds like it was deeper than the weather…he must have buttered his toast on the wrong side…and you know how upsetting that can be…life will never be the same.
Great weather in Tn. thanks..it has been hot all week..and I welcome the rain coming this weekend..so thanks to the elevator man for that!!
Sorry about your friend..I wish him well..be safe in your travels..
deb in tn
Hey Deb! Hope your weekend was great. It was over too quickly – as they usually are!
Janice if you think he was blount with you, listen to what I have to say. I was surfing and found this site that said: the primary; CAUSE OF GLOBAL WARMING, was the “Hot”; weather forecasters.
They had a list with about 15 names on it. They had left you off the list. Their loss…Wolfscratch: Clear and 80 degrees in the North GA Mountains, even on the weekend…
Hey Wolfscratch. Sounds like a nice forecast for you! You must be getting some rain today. I don’t mind not making the “hot” list!
How dare you spoil elevator mans weekend! I not surprised that he’s ticked off. Lake Okeechobee is 4 ft. below normal at this time the year what’s up with that? Why did you let the fires in CA burn for days on end? Did you get kick backs from home owners who couldn’t sell their homes by sending F1s, 2s, 3s and 4s their way? Geez, Metero-heads are bad people!
Not Smiling? Well how about……..
A new teacher was trying to make use of her psychology
courses. She started her class by saying, “Everyone who
thinks they’re stupid, stand up!” After a few seconds, Little
Johnny stood up. The teacher said, “Do you think you’re
stupid, Little Johnny?” “No, ma’am, but I hate to see you
standing there all by yourself.
Happy Monday!!
Great stuff Sunshine! I like your name too!
Hi Janice. I am sorry to hear about your friend. I think that he is blessed to have a good friend like you. You keep up the good work and don’t worry about pin heads like the guy in the elevator.

Thank you Robert and Karen. The guy in the elevator probably has other “issues…”
