Rainy, sleepy weather….
Happy Monday!
It was hard getting out of bed this morning. There’s just something about cool, rainy mornings that just make being in a warm little comfy cocoon of blankets and pillows so hard to move out of. It’s a soaking wet day here in New York, and we could see over 3 inches of rain in the next 36 hours. Yes, we need it, but too much of a good thing could be a problem obviously if it causes flooding - and if you’ve ever travelled the Long Island Expressway in a flooding downpour, you know how the blood pressure can rise! The rain will continue from Maine down through the Carolinas today and tomorrow with temperatures dropping below average. I must prepare for evil eyes in the elevators for the next couple of days! haha!
Meantime, on the West Coast, warm and dry conditions will be the story (with exception to the Northwest). Dangerous wildfire conditions will persist today with warmer than average temperatures, and low relative humidities. We broke several records yesterday around Southern California with temperatures in the high 90s and 100s! Tomorrow the winds will shift to more of an onshore flow, so that will cool things off and bring in more moisture from the Pacific.
Thanks again for being such great bloggers here. Everyone is so kind, supportive and energetic here. I am so happy to have you here!
JD

Hey Janice,
I’m glad we’re a supportive bunch on this blog! I enjoy corresponding with you and the others. I’m also glad I have the opportunity to share my pictures with everyone. I hope you don’t get yelled at today because of the weather. People always have to find someone to blame for something. For my evening news, I watch channel 7 out of Washington, DC and the anchors are always teasing the meteorologist, Doug Hill, about something. Whenever there is a chance of rain or snow, they want to know the exact time the precipitation will start. He takes the teasing rather well. He’s the one who taught me what virga is.
The only other occupation I considered besides librarian was meteorology. That thought ended quickly when I found out how much math I needed. Sadly, the math genes skipped from my older brother to my younger brother and missed me completely! Oh well, I do think that I’m a good librarian so I’m happy. I do keep some of my colleagues informed about the weather if they are planning on doing something outside or preparing for a trip. I have a weather station at home and keep a weather diary and that’s fun.
I hope you have a good day today without any nasty people giving you a hard time.
Take care,
Margie
Hiya Margie. Girls are just as good at math as boys are!
But I too remember being in school and thinking I was the dumbest girl in class too. It all depends on who your teachers are. I like your idea of a weather diary too! And so far not too many grumpy clouds in the elevator with me today!
No work for me today or tomorrow cause of the rain (keeps customers away)..which is fine; gives me a chance to chip away at spring cleaning my condo…I can do most of it just takes me extra time..(imagine lugging a feather bed from a chair ..HA…I bet I am a sight to see when I undertake such an endeavor)
Had a good weekend but my ‘puter went CRASH…and I couldnt recover it..UGH…So did some ‘puter shopping….that was kinda fun…
Janice I bet you make a wonderful aunt…Your niece is fortunate that she has you in her corner and being so supportive….
Makes me wonder though, I know that your husband is a New Yorker and you are from Canada so I am guessing this is your husband’s side of the family…Are any relatives on your side in the area as well or are they all still in Canada?..Just curious…
OH..The rain we are getting..Yes I admit we are grateful for it here in CT..was getting dry and things are thirsty…The CT river is slightly above flood stage but not by much..
Everyone have a great day ….Tell those you love that you do
And Janice its an absolute pleasure to be part of your blog…
Kindness begets kindness (hopefully anyway)… I love positive energy…Its like a glorious spring day to the soul..Ya know??
Have a good one…I have a pile of laundry staring me in the face
Hey Dawn! I wish I could have the day off when it rains too! haha! Yes, the family I have here in New York is on the hubby’s side. My mom and brother are in Canada - My mother’s side of the family is all in Canada. Positive energy makes people happy. Negative makes people sick. So very very true!
I’m sorry you have laundry to do! I don’t like putting the laundry in, but I do enjoy folding for some reason…
Hey Janice how are ya ! , have a wonderful week to you and all at FNC and the fireman too !,wow those are some pretty wild weather high’s in SoCal, really need the moisture up there right now with those wildfires going on, we cannot control the weather it just happens , all we can do is give the best advance advice and warnings to folk , THATS IT ! so don’t blame the weather machine, elevator guy ! have a great week ! , Love Richard
HA! Richard thanks for the vote of confidence! Haven’t seen grumpy elevator dude today thank goodness!
Hey JD,
On Friday’s post containing my U-Report pictures “The False Dervish in Flushing, NY” mentioned the “Leatherstocking Tales” by James Fennimore Cooper.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leatherstocking_Tales
They are a series of novels taking places in colonial central New York and one of these stories with “The Last of the Mohicans”. This novel was made into a movie starring Daniel Day-Lewis and Madeleine Stowe, here is a link about the movie;

James Fennimore Cooper’s home is a state historic site in Cooperstown, NY. Ironically Cooperstown has many cultural attractions other the Baseball Hall of Fame. Cooperstown is a pretty little village at the south end of Otsego Lake. There is Old Farmers Museum is a working farm community from the early 19th century and the Glimmerglass Opera Company in Cooperstown and of course the hall of fame.

Cooperstown can be a bit pricey, but between seasons like very late summer it is more reasonable. If you and Sean are looking for a non-skiing long weekend getaway I would strongly suggest Cooperstown.
Wow that’s great info Bill! I did see the Last of the Mohicans and enjoyed it! Cooperstown sounds lovely!
Hi Dawn.
I have to agree with you I’ll bet Janice would be a fun and wonderful aunt!
Ha. Thanks Bill. My niece is pretty awesome herself. My hubby’s family are all really wonderful people…just like he is. I feel pretty darn lucky!
Right on JD…..rainy cool weather is no fun, but it sure makes you appreciate the good days. I believe it was Skakespeare who said” If all the year were paid Holiday’s, to Sport would be as tedious as to work.”
for the fellers on the elevator…look em in the eye an say” If I could make it rain in here, I’d do it just for you!!!!hahahehe
just kiddin…would be funny though..little rain in the northwest corner of elevator #5
Steve-O - I like the way you think! And yes, I think that would be a totally legitimate comment to make for grumpy people who blame the weather machine for ruining their weekends! ha!
Happy Monday to you JD..
We had rain off and on all weekend…and I really enjoyed it..it was getting a little dry..today is partly cloudy..but the sun pops out every now and then..temp is 60..so we have had a little cool down..but the temp will rise back up in the high 70’s again soon.(typical Tn. weather)..
Too bad you couldn’t sleep-in this morning..I have had insomnia for the past couple of months, but I am finally getting back to normal on that..thanks goodness..because I am not fit for anything when I lose sleep..
You have a great day..and thank you for all you do..

I know what you mean by not sleeping. Ugh. Sleep is the best medecine for everything. I’m trying to learn to calm my mind before going to sleep. It’s not easy! Classical music helps me sometimes…I’m glad you are finally getting some rest - and hopefully some sunshine too!
Snow in the far reaches east of the OV Canada. Even brought out the snow plows and sanders! Sorry but this U-report reporter didn’t have his camera with him. Also some nice long t-storms that lasted 6 hours Saturday morning.
I know what you mean about waking up on a rainy morning and wanting to stay in bed.
I loved rainy days when I lived in Chicago, especially on Saturdays and Sundays, when I could sleep in. Of course, when I had outside activities planned, which I often did, rain usually made me change them.
Living in Old Town made life easy. I was only two blocks from the Village Theater, which showed new movies about a month or two have they were released. The Village was much cheaper than downtown and Near North theaters, and even offered double features.
I moved from Chicago to California in 1986, settling in Los Angeles in 1990. I miss those rainy days. It rains here about once every six months, and then it’s like a drizzle back in Chicago or almost anywhere else in the country.
