Kayaking!
Hello everyone!
We had a wonderful day today – despite the stuffy nose. The weather was perfect for kayaking, so we headed out to the marshes. I’ve never been kayaking before, and it certainly took some patience along with a great deal of balance! I wasn’t able to take too many photos (the balance thing…) – so here’s what I managed on my little camera (my husband as a much fancier camera than moi). I also found a picture of my birthday pancakes last Friday – so that’s what you’re also seeing inbetween outdoor shots! Mmmmm….pancakes…
I must admit I am pretty tired after a long day, so I’m going to sign off here. Glad you guys are still visiting and commenting. I am so pleased at the crew we have here. I was jumping onto some of the other blogs last night, and some of them seem to be kind of out of control! So I am thankful we have such a courteous and thoughtful bunch. I hope we can keep it this way!
I also like the fact that you guys start off with what the weather is like where you live! Very cool. I look forward to reading everything you comment on each day.
Have a great night!

Hello Janice,
It seems you had a great day. I’ve never tried kayaking before.
Maybe, I shouldn’t try it. I don’t want to end up drowned
The pancakes look good. They make me hungry! I haven’t
eaten breakfast yet. Well, have a wonderful evening!
Hey Janice,
I hope you are reading this on Thursday. You sound like you definitely need a good rest after your busy day. I’m glad you’re having fun. I, too, am glad we have a courteous and thoughtful bunch here. I stopped reading Greta’s blog because of the extreme nastiness that goes on there. I check in every once in a while to see what Greta has to say, but that’s it. Your blog is a lot more personal and a lot more civil and I hope it stays that way, too. I hope you enjoy the rest of your vacation. Get plenty of rest!
Take care,
Margie
Hey Janice..
You guys look like you are having a wonderful vacation…and you make such a good looking couple!!

JD…..
Sounds like you are having a great time and I’m going out to dinner now after looking at those pancakes.
Saw an article in the newspaper today showing a ski area called Arapahoe Basin. It is about 55 miles West of Denver on I-70 right at the continental divide. They are still open and just got 12″ more new snow yesterday. They will probably get another 5-10″ tonight and tomorrow. I think I might take one more ski day on Saturday. Yes, I will use lots of sunscreen. The base elevation of the ski area is about 11,500 feet and the top is close to 13,000 feet.
Hi Deb and Margie, hope you guys are well and getting some better weather where you live.
Next week is going to be a very exciting week for me. My younger daughter is graduating high school and my older daughter is turning 25. (I can’t believe I’m that old and that I let her live that long…….LOL) She is also buying her first house next weekend. I’m really excited for her. She’s very responsible with her job and money stuff. It is really fun watching them grow up and reach those milestones with success.
Have a great night everyone. JD, you continue having a great vacation. Please eat some great seafood for me as well.

Hey Sunny,
I guess I shouldn’t complain about the rain we have in the forecast. At least it’s not snow!
It sounds like you have all kinds of fun things coming up! Congratulations on everything! It’s been way too long since I graduated from high school! I’m sure you are very proud. I’m really impressed that your daughter is buying a house at the age of 25. She sounds like a very well grounded young lady. (I’m sure she learned a lot from her dad!) I didn’t buy a house until I was 40. I’m so glad I did because I’m enjoying it very much. A house is a big responsibility, but I’m sure your daughter will have fun making it all her own. Enjoy your week of celebrations!
Have a great time!
Margie
Hey Sunny..
That sure sounds like alot of snow!! But I am sure it is perfect for skiing..(I don’t think I spelled that right)..
And doesn’t the years fly by..As a mother of a 30 yr.old daughter, and a 26 yr. old son..I have celebrated many milestones also..their first steps..first words..first everything..I know you are proud..and you have reason to be..
Congratulations to you and your daughters..
Deb
Hey Deb & Margie…..
Thanks for the kind words. It should be a really fun week. I’ll take some pics and see if JD will post so everyone can see me and my girls. (me without the Pinhead Shirt.)
Good evening all.

Janice, I have heard that you and Meagen Kelley are sisters. Is that true?
Looks like an awesome time. Hmmm pancakes, I need some of those, havn’t had some for a couple of years. I know how tragic is that.
Will try to remember to snap a pic of some tulips in the front yard tomorrow.
I have my fancier camera all ready to go now.
Everyone is right it’s an awesome blog, but of course we have an awesome Blog Hostess JD.
Wow Margie, I thought I was the only one who stopped reading Greta’s blog and for the same reason. New Years Day a family of 4 were murdered here in Richmond and Greta was her doing a story on the murder. Last week I went through The Hollywood Cemetary here and took a picture of that family’s tombstone thinking she might like to see it and yet I still haven’t sent it to her.
This cemetary is bt far the most beautiful one I’ve ever see. Presidents Tyler and Monroe are buried there as well as 18,000 confederate soldiers and thousands of others who obviously had money a couple hundred years ago. I’ve never seen a larger collection of beautiful carved and unusual stones. I really don’t think the craftsman exist today that could due this type of work.
Don’t ever come to Richmond without visiting Hollywood Cemetary
I just realized I spelled cemetery wrong. I should not be typing at 2:40 in the morning without sleep because I becose I spel rong
Hey Don, I don’t think I’d spell any better at 2:40 in the morning! I don’t know if I should ask you what you’re doing up at 2:40 a.m. I hope by now you got some sleep. Hollywood Cemetery sounds very interesting. I haven’t visited too many cemeteries, but one of the most interesting is Forest Lawn Cemetery in Buffalo, NY. There’s definitely a lot of craftsmanship in the marble in that cemetery. An interesting fact about Forest Lawn is that it’s so beautiful, wedding parties go there to have their pictures taken. When I visited my friend Alicia a couple years ago, we went there and there were about 5 or 6 wedding parties there. I’m not sure what it looks like now because a few days after I was there, there was a major October snow storm that damaged more than half the trees in Buffalo. It was early October and the leaves were still on the trees. I did take some beautiful pictures there myself. Another cemetery that everyone has heard of is Arlington National Cemetery. That’s an emotional place to visit. It’s also good exercise since the place is huge.
Well, I think we need a more cheerful topic than cemeteries! I hope everyone has a great day today. And Janice, I hope you’ve rested up from your kayaking yesterday. I hope your weather is nice down there. It’s cloudy again here in Cumberland, but so far no rain has fallen today. Have a great day!
Margie
Good Morning All…
Tn. Weather update…Rain..Rain..and more Rain..we are covered up for the next 24 hours or so..
But on a positive note..I know the sun is shining somewhere…just not here..lol.
Have a great day..
Deb
Goddess,
Look for my recent uReport submittals.
Ciao Bella
Over cast with some showers and rain predicted for tomorrow….then a cooler weekend with some showers here and there….
Hello, JD and Everyone!
It’s been raining steadily here since about 2:00 AM, but I’m so loving it. We were about 5 inches low on our average rainfall to date. Hope this makes up for the shortage. After 2 years of below average rainfall, I quit complaining about the rain. I would have loved to have spent the morning on the back porch with a cup (or a pot) of coffee–but work calls.
Sunny, congratulations to your girls on their graduation/new house. Both are big steps. My best to them on their futures.
Janice, hope you’re feeling better. They kayaking looked likes lots of fun. I think I’ll have to try the eastern side of North Carolina next visit. I’ve always been partial to the western (mountain) side.
Hope everyone has a blessed day (as the thunder rolls in the background)!
Gwen
Don in Richmond..
I personally love going to cemeteries and looking at headstones..especially old ones..it is very interesting.. I live in a rural area so there isn’t alot of large cemeteries..but many small ones..mostly family plots..and they call them grave-yards..and they depend on family members to do the upkeep..so alot of them are over-grown and jungle-like..When my grandfather was living he would have me going all over the county with him and his push mower..mowing grave-yards..he was as country as cornbread and had alot of respect for the dead and couldn’t stand to see them overgrown with weeds. So he took it upon himself to be the care-taker. In that time I saw many unmarked graves..some with just large rocks with names carved in them..and I remember one in particular that had 8 tiny headstones in a row..which were all babies born and died to a young couple..that was so sad.
But my favorite to visit is a large cemetery…we didn’t mow this one, but we did visit it alot..It is the York Cemetery..that is where Alvin C. York is buried..he was a WWl hero..he has a beautiful monument there..and the mountains surrounding that area are gorgeous..
I think cemeteries and graveyards are an important part of history..
Deb
Hey Deb,
Out in the country near my parents are some old little graveyards like you described. They are very interesting. Last year I visited the Smoky Mountains and stayed in Sevierville. I took a drive through the National Park and went to Cades Cove where there were a bunch of the old churches with small cemeteries behind them. There were some fascinating tombstones there. A sad thing to see was that they had little lambs on the tombstones of the babies/little children. In these cemeteries and others, you can find a bunch of markers that have many people dying in the same year and you wonder if there was some kind of disease outbreak that killed a lot of people. I agree with your comment about cemeteries and graveyards being an important part of history. Thanks for sharing your story!
Margie
Margie, the reason I was awake is because I was having trouble with the insulin pump in that I was getting high BG’s At 10:00 pm I did a correction bolus for a BG of 174 and 2 hours later the BG went up to 288. To make a long story short even though I didn’t receive an occlusion alarm I changes the infusion set for the second time yesterday and stayed awake to see what was happening. This morning I went to my educator and she switched me to an infusion set with a shorter cannula. This seems to be working. I just hung up from a “pump expert” at J&J and she said “95% of all problems are from the infusion set” and she agreed with my educator in the smaller cannula.
Deb, there are many of the tiny stones for babies here also. Another thing I was amazed at is how many folks in the 1,800 lived into there 80’s. I’m assuming these folks led a pretty good life and ate better then most of those days. I can understand having wedding pictures at a cemetery. Heck I died the day I was married and was reborn the day I was divorced. (Kidding)
My mom died at 80 and one year later my dad died at 82. Four years before my mom died, dad bought cemetery plots without my moms knowledge in late November. He wrapped the deed as a Christmas present and gave it to my mom on Christmas with a note that said, “you get nothing else till you use this up” He had a great sence of humor.
Don,
I hope you get things all worked out with your insulin pump and that things settle down for you. You need your sleep! It sounds like the shorter cannula did the trick–I hope so!
I laughed when I read the story about your dad and the “unique” Christmas gift. I’m not sure what to think about that, however. I hope he was joking!
Have a great day.
Margie
Margie, He was joking. When they were married 50 years I had a surprise dinner and party for them at a resturant and had 130 of their relatives and friends. After it was over he thanked me for the party and everyone else for being there. He said, ” a lot of people asked if he ever considered divorce in the past 50 years and he said he could honestly say he never once considered divorce but he did consider murder twice a year” Everyone knew his humor.
Don..
I hope you have your insulin issue fixed..maybe you can get some rest..
I have noticed the same thing about people living long lives long ago..
But also alot of babies dying at birth or shortly after..the only thing I can figure out with that is the mothers didn’t have the appropriate pre-natal care.
I liked the Christmas gift story too..at least they were prepared..
Deb
Don,
Your dad sounds like he was a great guy! My dad has a great sense of humor too, but he’s never bought my mom a cemetery plot! I hope my parents make it to their 50th anniversary next April. They both have health issues, so I’m not sure. It sounds like you have some very happy memories of your dad. Thanks for sharing these with us.
Margie
Mr. and Mrs. Dean
It is a little soggy here in the “ham” today. We have a slight risk of severe weather this afternoon. However, I will take the risk because we need the rain!
A few weeks ago, you posted a great test about the things that matter most and what we will remember about life. I meant to place a reply about what I call the Tombstone Theory of Life. It is strange, I will give it that, but I have to remind myself of what is important from time to time. What matters in life is what goes on your tombstone, loving father, loving and devoted mother, loving husband and father, friend to all etc. Well, I have met my serious quota for the day!
If you are ever in central Florida, try visiting DunnEllon, Florida and spending some time on the Rainbow River. It is a great area and the water is crystal clear.
Hope you both continue to enjoy your vacation!
GL
I love the pics!! Good to see a beautiful lady that is not afraid for her hair to get messed up or dirt on your hands (ok just stick them in the water). You two look sooo good together! Hope you had your sunscreen
Get well
