I love the pics!! Good to see a beautiful lady that is not afraid for her hair to get messed up or dirt on your hands (ok just stick them in the water). You two look sooo good together! Hope you had your sunscreen :) Get well

Mr. and Mrs. Dean :)

It is a little soggy here in the "ham" today. We have a slight risk of severe weather this afternoon. However, I will take the risk because we need the rain!

A few weeks ago, you posted a great test about the things that matter most and what we will remember about life. I meant to place a reply about what I call the Tombstone Theory of Life. It is strange, I will give it that, but I have to remind myself of what is important from time to time. What matters in life is what goes on your tombstone, loving father, loving and devoted mother, loving husband and father, friend to all etc. Well, I have met my serious quota for the day!

If you are ever in central Florida, try visiting DunnEllon, Florida and spending some time on the Rainbow River. It is a great area and the water is crystal clear.

Hope you both continue to enjoy your vacation!

Don,

Your dad sounds like he was a great guy! My dad has a great sense of humor too, but he's never bought my mom a cemetery plot! I hope my parents make it to their 50th anniversary next April. They both have health issues, so I'm not sure. It sounds like you have some very happy memories of your dad. Thanks for sharing these with us.

Don..

I hope you have your insulin issue fixed..maybe you can get some rest..

I have noticed the same thing about people living long lives long ago..

But also alot of babies dying at birth or shortly after..the only thing I can figure out with that is the mothers didn't have the appropriate pre-natal care.

I liked the Christmas gift story too..at least they were prepared..

Margie, He was joking. When they were married 50 years I had a surprise dinner and party for them at a resturant and had 130 of their relatives and friends. After it was over he thanked me for the party and everyone else for being there. He said, " a lot of people asked if he ever considered divorce in the past 50 years and he said he could honestly say he never once considered divorce but he did consider murder twice a year" Everyone knew his humor.

Don,

I hope you get things all worked out with your insulin pump and that things settle down for you. You need your sleep! It sounds like the shorter cannula did the trick--I hope so!

I laughed when I read the story about your dad and the "unique" Christmas gift. I'm not sure what to think about that, however. I hope he was joking!

Have a great day.

Deb, there are many of the tiny stones for babies here also. Another thing I was amazed at is how many folks in the 1,800 lived into there 80's. I'm assuming these folks led a pretty good life and ate better then most of those days. I can understand having wedding pictures at a cemetery. Heck I died the day I was married and was reborn the day I was divorced. (Kidding)

My mom died at 80 and one year later my dad died at 82. Four years before my mom died, dad bought cemetery plots without my moms knowledge in late November. He wrapped the deed as a Christmas present and gave it to my mom on Christmas with a note that said, "you get nothing else till you use this up" He had a great sence of humor.

Margie, the reason I was awake is because I was having trouble with the insulin pump in that I was getting high BG's At 10:00 pm I did a correction bolus for a BG of 174 and 2 hours later the BG went up to 288. To make a long story short even though I didn't receive an occlusion alarm I changes the infusion set for the second time yesterday and stayed awake to see what was happening. This morning I went to my educator and she switched me to an infusion set with a shorter cannula. This seems to be working. I just hung up from a "pump expert" at J&J and she said "95% of all problems are from the infusion set" and she agreed with my educator in the smaller cannula.

Hey Deb,

Out in the country near my parents are some old little graveyards like you described. They are very interesting. Last year I visited the Smoky Mountains and stayed in Sevierville. I took a drive through the National Park and went to Cades Cove where there were a bunch of the old churches with small cemeteries behind them. There were some fascinating tombstones there. A sad thing to see was that they had little lambs on the tombstones of the babies/little children. In these cemeteries and others, you can find a bunch of markers that have many people dying in the same year and you wonder if there was some kind of disease outbreak that killed a lot of people. I agree with your comment about cemeteries and graveyards being an important part of history. Thanks for sharing your story!
