Hello everyone……..

Here is the image of the tornado on doppler radar…..

http://www.crh.noaa.gov/bou/?n=tor_radar_052208

This is called a hook echo and it is the “signature” that is used to identfy
a tornado on radar. By the way, this is one of the most clearly identified
hook echos that I have seen in quite a while. Unfortunately one person
was killed by this tornado.

I always stop and pause when you post warnings like that on the blog Janice…This year its like the next day is full of stories in the news about devastation….

Can you imagine how even just a few decades ago…(if that long even)…we didnt have such detailed and specific warnings so readily available?

For us here in NE we are looking at a great weekend weather-wise…starting to pick up tomorrow…

Kinda a mind-twist ya know?…I’ll be busy at work all weekend and its very possible (probable?) that there may be others losing everything they have if not their own lives or the lives of those they love and know…

Whatta mind twist….

And I am most likely going to be too busy in my part of the country to really know and hear alot about it….

hmmm :(
Hard to know what to feel sometimes….

Comment by Janice Dean

Well, we just have to appreciate life when we can, right Dawn? I know you do exactly that! ;) Have a great weekend…try not to work too hard (although it sounds like you love what you do!)

Sunny…That hook echo…Im not to clear…Is that a tornado already? or one in formation? Or an indication one may be forming?

Or all the above??

How much time from seeing somehting like that on radar before one forms??

Comment by Janice Dean

It’s a signature we look at on radar to identify tornadoes…it’s pretty facinating!

My god that footage….I look at that and I think of storm chasers and all I can think is why would anyone what to get near such a monster-like thing?

Comment by Rob "Sunny" Roseman

Wenchie…….

When you see a hook echo like that one, most likely the tornado has already formed, at least up in the cloud, the question then becomes, will it touch down. In this case, what you are looking at the a true signature of the Tornado that is already on the ground.

Janice….Can you help with something??…I caught the tail end of an interview Brian Kilmeade did with a (former?) serviceman (he is African American of pretty high rank)….They were promoting his book that he has written on leadership…

But I didnt catch the man’s name or the name of the book….UGH…but it grabbed my intent interest…

I checked the Fox website but I cant find anything on it….Any idea of where I can find the info??…

Thanks

I saw an incredable photo on ureport on Friday Fox and Friends show of a wall cloud over a farm house in rural Kansas but I can’t seem to find it now. Can you help me locate it?
Thanks Pat
