Janice Dean the Weather Machine

Back to Work

Hi everyone

Sorry for the delay.   A lot going on, but I am back at work today, and so far so good.  I’m going to be a little “slow” for the next few days, just so I can get my feet on the ground.   Thank you again for all your kind comments and well wishes.    I’m lucky to have such a caring and thoughtful group here.

Things are pretty tough for folks in the Midwest again.   It’s just so sad to see people so helpless from floods, high winds, and tornadoes.  Swollen rivers and streams reaching record crests in Wisconsin, Indiana and Iowa…flash flood watches and warnings remain posted in areas that have bit hit by storm after storm and more rain is in the forecast.  It’s just heartbreaking.

In the West, Wildfires across California are the threat where high winds, low relative humidity and warm temperatures continue for the rest of the workweek.  I can’t imagine what those firefighters have to deal with.  My husband who is a firefighter here in New York has commented that fighting wildfires is a completely different beast from what he does day to day -  and even more dangerous since you have no idea how far or wide the inferno will spread with literally no warning.

I truly wish I had better weather news today.  The tornado numbers are staggering as well, and the tally could rise again today from the Midwest back through the Plains.

Ok, got any Good News, Dean?

How bout you guys?  What’s new?   I need a silver lining here! :)

Silver linings for these devastated areas?….This isnt China nor Mynamar (sp?)….Although we arent perfect the USA is better prepared to deal with these sort of things…

Doesnt make the pain any easier to bare….but it can give it a more global perspective….

Hey Janice,

Welcome back! We sure did miss you. I saw you this morning and you looked fine–I hope you’re feeling fine, too! Take it easy and don’t try to do too much.

I’ve been watching the coverage of all the flooding. That is just so unreal. I can’t imagine that much water where it’s not supposed to be! I’m glad the high heat and humidity are subsiding a little in the east. I hope that helps you because I know that heat and humidity can knock the wind out of you. A nasty thunderstorm took care of our heat and humidity around here yesterday. Fortunately it didn’t hit the city of Cumberland but some areas had power knocked out and trees down. Frostburg, which just observed the 10th anniversary of the big tornado, got some nasty straight line winds that toppled a few trees. I guess the ground was saturated from all the rain we’ve had over the past few months because the wind totally uprooted a tree that was 6 feet in diameter. If we hadn’t had so much rain, I guess the wind would have just blown some branches down instead of uprooting the whole tree. Either way, that must have been some wind gust! I had to dodge branches, garbage bags, and other debris on my way home from work, but that was about it. Not a drop of rain fell, although I heard thunder in the distance. It’s around 80 degrees right now so that is a lot better than 97!

I have some things to send you but I’m going to wait a couple days to give you a chance to catch up a little and get back in the swing of things. I try very hard not to be a pest! Take care of yourself and know that I’ll be keeping you in my prayers.

Have a great afternoon everyone!

Margie

Thanks Margie. Yeah, it’s a snails pace for me today! :) Thanks for all your encouragement and kind words…

WELCOME BACK, JANICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But PLEASE take care of yourself. Don’t push too much!
Believe it or not I grew up in Cedar Falls. There are some homes to the north built on stilts because it floods there all the time. Can’t even imagine what it’s looking like there now, if the stilts would even help.
We’ve got SNOW up in the mountains around here! SNOW in JUNE!
And didn’t I call it? Weeks ago I said it was going to be an “historic” year for tornadoes and bad weather and oh my it is.
Hope you’re resting up between forecasts!

Comment by Janice Dean

Thanks Lynn! I am doing ok. Definitely a much slower pace! Isn’t that snow crazy???

Missed you, JD!!!

On the lighter side. I have to laugh sometimes at these completely clueless “stars” in LaLaWood. Take a look at the Fox Hollywood report about Molly Sims, of all people, dissin’ poor “starstruck” Steph Pratt. You must be kidding. When did Molly Sims get to the point where she should ignore ANYONE?

Note to Molly, get a clue.

Hey Davey! I have no idea who those gals are! I’ll have to ask my roomie Jill Dobson!

Jack Hammer was good background music. No ring today?

Comment by Janice Dean

Don, I’ve been so out of it the last few days, that I’m surprised I had pants on when I left my apt. I forgot it…and my hand doesn’t feel the same.

Hey, Janice:

Glad to hear you are feeling better. Just saw you on E.D.’s program a few minutes ago….you look GREAT, you babe, you!

Nothing new going on with me. I am OK. Paying attention to the storm reports in the midwest. It just seems to get worse!

Anyway, rest up, Janice.

Very happy to see you back. Please ease into work and don’t over do it. A belated Happy Anniversary to you and your husband. When I saw your wedding photo, two songs came to mind. “You Are So Beautiful” by Joe Cocker and “Sharp Dressed Man” by Z Z Top! May you two have many more anniversaries and may your love and happiness continue to grow exponentially.
Best wishes from a very HOT Texas, JB

Comment by Janice Dean

Very sweet JB! Thank u!! :) I wish I could cool it off down there!! We had a taste of that weather a little bit earlier this week. Not fun!! I guess the airconditioners are big in Texas too!

Janice,
“Bless your sweet little heart!” as my very Southern mother would have said. We’re so glad to see you back. Just wanted to add my “welcome back” to the chorus from your faithful bloggers. You take it easy and don’t overdo. Sit down and rest a spell if you have to.

Take care!
Gwen
P.S.: You have to read this aloud with your most Southern accent to get the full effect. HA!

THREE! Well you just did make it under the wire. I gave you til the count of three to get back on the air. Good to see you back!

Janice, I live very near the flood zone in Northern Iowa, though only peripherally affected. The folks in Mason City, whose water plant was shut down after record flooding, can use their toilets and showers again! How’s that for a silver lining? The city set up porta potties all over town.

Also, here’s a way cool tornado photo from Mitchell County, IA.

Welcome back JD! :) Sunny and nice all day here, did some biking, great breeze! Blackflys, other little flying pests chase you back indoors if you aren’t moving.

Take it easy JD, no need to overdo things. :)

Here’s some good news, Janice… we found your blog! Sara and I just saw Sean and are looking forward to seeing you soon. Glad you’re feeling better.

Also, this insane NYC heat wave finally broke!

So good to see you back on TV Janice!!

I know the weather has really been nasty and devastating in other parts of the country, but it was much more clement today here in the big Apple, finally!!!

I rode my bicycle down along the Hudson and what a pleasure after a long day at work. Especially since biking is the only sport I do in my life so I take it seriously, when weather permits. (I have to compensate for all the cheeses I eat & all the wine I drink!)

What I love the most is that special iodized oceanic smell, very salty, that comes to your nostrils once you get to Battery Park City. The same fragrance I used to smell on the other side of the Atlantic when I was a kid! For me it really means vacation and dreams that are linked to far destinations…
It must be New York’s paradox :)

Super happy to have you back Janice!

many kisses from the Grosse Pomme!

Guillaume

Oh I love “bless your heart”, my great aunts would say that to me.

JD take care of yourself, I have been worried. I tried not to be, but I was. I am like that about Cavuto too, and Snow. I tend to panic. I am off to a convention for a few days, but take care of yourself. Pacing yourself is hard, trust me I am the survivor that got frozen shoulder because I tried to do too much and it took so long to figure it out I froze it. Pacing is the best way.

Nice to hear that you’re back! I will be dropping some photos in later this week-end when I get home. Beautiful weather here in England and the piper aircraft ride around the English Channel was great. Man, I love my job! ;-)

First of all thank you for what you do. I am watching Fox New now (9:00mt June 11,0 8) I was greatly disturbed by the callous comments by the female anchor. Saying, “they have basements, shelters, ect. These are peoples lives in Chapman and Manhatten, KS. It was like, “well, Dorothy Gail, you live in Kansas.” I guess if you don’t live in NYC, oh well. Thank goodness for Harrison Falkner. She realizes the trouble these people face. Go over and tell that anchor, what she is sounding like. Straighten her out, janice. Thank you again.
