Fun with the 80’s

Ok - I found a couple of pretty hilarious photos of myself back in the late 80s.  I forgot about my huge eyebrows that had never seen a tweaser until my mid 20’s!  haha.   And look at my CRAZY hair.  I was going through cans of hairspray a day!

The first one was taken in California (I love teddy bears, so I had someone take this picture in front of a chocolate shop.  I think I was 19???

And the second one was at a picnic at City Hall where I used to work in the summers as a By-Law Dispatch Operator (the gals I used to work with always said that I began my career giving out calls to all of the Officers on the dispatch!!  HAHA!)

Ahhh the good old days!

That’s City Hall in Ottawa unless I’m mistaken. :) That’s a beautiful building inside too. Been there for private parties and it’s such a impressive building. Much nicer than the City hall building in the old city of Hull.

Comment by Janice Dean

Nope! It’s Nepean’s City Hall! Where I used to live!

Janice-

Back then you kind of resemble that actress from Family Ties, who played Michael J Fox’s younger sister. I believe her name is Tina Yothers.

Comment by Janice Dean

Yikes. Tina Yothers!

Here are my all time favorite tv shows of the decade;
Miami Vice, Hunter, MacGyver, Growing Pains, Whos The Boss, just to name a few awesome ones.

For movies:

Sixteen Candles, Ferris Buellers Day Off, Adventures in Babysitting, Uncle Buck, National Lampoons Vacation, The Breakfast Club, and basically all the John Hughes teen genre classics. I have a lot more, i just cant remember the names at the moment.

Anyone here can add to the list :)

Comment by Janice Dean

Love 16 Candles and Breakfast Club! Life seemed a lot more simple back then!

I almost forgot to mention, remember all those cigarette advertisements you would always see in magazines and newspapers during the decades? It was hard to go anywhere without seeing those. They wer everywhere, on the bus stop benches and even billboards.

Richard is right! You did look like Brooke Shields. It might be the eyebrows throwing me off though (haha). Did you have Freckles as a kid? Maybe the joke you told about you being a secret redhead isn’t a joke! ;-)

The Dominion of Canada flag is out flying today over the lake place in B.C. I’ll get a picture for you! I still have old Canadian currency that has that written on it. :-)

Comment by Janice Dean

Yeah - the eyebrows are a little freaky.

You can add St. Elmo’s Fire to that list of 80’s movies Brad’s right John Hughes and teen comidies actually dramadies just had that magic then that just clicked. Weird Science ah Kelly LeBrock still dumps Segal for me in my dreams some nights HA!!!! Caddyshack how can you not mention probably the greatest golf movie ever made. The original btw with Dangerfield and Knight cant forget about Bill Murray and Chevy Chase’s roles in that. What a great decade glad I grew up then.

Comment by Janice Dean

Yup. Love those ones too. Caddyshack is so hilarious.

I wonder what John Hughes has been up to lately, i looked his name up on the internet movie database, and he really hasnt done anything since the early 90s. I wonder if he just ran out of movie ideas shorty after the decade ended.

Plus what made each of his films so special was the fact each one of his characters were a part of his personality.

Comment by Brad

I totally agree, life was definately simpler back then. I wonder how we even got along without internet, email, and cell phones.

I still remember those Commodore computer games where you would blast the little monsters that looked like dots. Pac Man and Tetris were just a couple of them.

Richard-

Yep. CHiPs was another of my all time favorites. Airwolf too. Did you know it was created and produced by the same guy who did Magnum PI and most currently, JAG, and NCIS? And i am sure you remember Hawaii Five-0 also :)

Comment by Brad

Btw, Molly Ringwald is currently a series on one of the cable networks called ” The Secret Life of An American Teenager”.

Just thought you guys might be interested.

Janice,
I would say Kelly LeBrock or Kelly the one married to John Travolta in Jerry McGuire! That is who you looked like back then, not Tina!!! sorry Brad, most women don’t want to be Tina.

You had such a great smile back then, I am glad you keep that same smile today!

Janice-

You also look like Amanda Peterson back in those days. If anybody has no clue of who that is, you should look it up on imdb. She was a famous actress that starred in one of those memorable teen genre movies of that decade. But sadly, it wasnt one of the John Hughes ones.
