Happy Wednesday!
Still having a hard time posting comments for some reason. The blog folks are trying to figure stuff out. I’m also hearing that when you send U-report pix now there is an option to send to me directly, so let me know if you see that feature when you click on to the right hand side of the blog where it says “send your photos”
Weather-wise, showers and or thunderstorms will pop up for the eastern half of the country today. The west coast will remain dry and very warm for the most part as a ridge of high pressure hangs out and makes things miserable for firefighters trying to contain the dozens of large wildfires burning over California. Temperatures in the high 90s to over 100 degrees for much of California today. Excessive heat watches and warnings remain in effect with possible record highs, low relative humidity and very poor air quality. Coastal areas should feel a bit cooler, but we’re also seeing shifting winds which is making things even more difficult trying to contain these monster fires. The Ridge should start to break down by Friday allowing for more seasonal temperatures, but there’s no rain in the forecast for the foreseeable future.
Bertha looks like she’s strengthening a little bit again on the latest satellite, but so far it looks like the storm will recurve out to sea. Bermuda still needs to keep a watchful eye on things over the next 3 to 5 days.
According to Dr. Jeff Masters, Bertha was the third strongest hurricane on record so early in the season.
That’s about all for now. Hopefully I’ll be able to respond to some of your comments soon! Have a great day!

And a Happy Wednesday to you and all the bloggers too! This is a working week-end for me so it won’t be hump day until tomorrow!
Everybody have a good day!
Hello Janice. How are you? That’s cool if I can send you pics directly!
I should take some pics for you again
Well, my job made me come to MI and will determine my returning date.
I’ll probably be here until around the end of Aug. Have a great day!
Hi Janice and everyone,
I hope everyone is having a good day so far. I have a crazy story to share. This morning I stopped by the hospital switchboard during my break. I usually say hello to whoever is working there. I know my job is very interesting, but the switchboard is even more interesting because they talk to all kinds of people. This morning some guy called looking for a particular woman. Apparently, yesterday a woman walked into the South Cumberland post office naked! The guy who called asked if the naked woman was admitted because he was sure it was his girlfriend because “she hasn’t been acting right lately.” The Braddock Campus has the Psych. unit so all those kinds of people come here. I don’t think I could keep a straight face if someone called asking about a naked woman! Of course, we can’t give out that kind of information so the operator transferred his call to the ER. I can imagine how the people in the post office reacted! I can’t say that I ever encountered a naked person running around! It’s really not funny because mental illness is a serious matter but I just can’t imagine someone calling up a hospital looking for a naked woman and admitting that they might be her boyfriend. Life is interesting…
Janice, I hope you get the problems with the blog worked out. That must be frustrating. I might try to send a picture some day. I’ll see how it works for others first. It took me three days to finally get my other one through just so it can be lost in the black hole with the three others I’ve sent in the past week. I’ll see how the new system works for others before I try again. Maybe by the time I take my trip in October all the bugs will be worked out because I’m sure I’ll have plenty to share then. My next picture taking adventure will be this Sunday when we celebrate my little nephew’s second birthday. I wouldn’t be able to share any of those pictures anyway, but I’m sure I’ll take plenty! He’s so cute!
Anyway, I hope everyone has a great day.
Margie

Adios for now
Hey JD..and everyone..
It is hot and muggy in Tn today….woke up at 5am to a thunder boomer..and pouring rain..only lasted about a 1/2 hour…we need the rain but not the Humidity!!!
Good news about Ureport..Yipee!!
Happy Hump Day…
Deb
Hey Dawn and Deb,
It’s warm and rather humid here but not as hot as it was yesterday. It’s only supposed to get up to around 80 today instead of the 94 degrees we had yesterday. It’s certainly not warm in this hospital right now. I got so cold I put on my corduroy jacket that I’ve kept in here since the winter. It’s pretty bad when you have to wear a jacket inside and take it off when you go outside!
Have a great day!
Margie
JD we finally had a shower yesterday. It was refreshing and cooling for about 30 minutes. Now it is getting the time we don’t want rain, for the corn to stay dry. Which means it will rain nonstop!
Hey Margie..
It is raining here now, and the temp has dropped 10 degrees. It is just a small front, so it will only last for about an hour or so. But it is a refreshing change.
No wonder you have sinus problems with the different temps you are dealing with. Can’t they adjust the temp at your work?
I agree about the mental issue..it is very serious.. but that was amusing (respectfully) about the naked lady.
Have a great day Margie.
Deb
Hey Dawn..
I take that you are a busy woman..and those veggies sound delish.I have 2 tomato plants and they several tomatoes on them..can’t wait till they get ripe..
Don’t work to hard..
Deb
Hey Deb,
Those storms can certainly drop the temperature in a hurry. We had a little rain this morning, but nothing major. It was only supposed to get up to 80 today, but it’s about 85 right now so I’m sure it’s rather uncomfortable outside with the high humidity. I think my headache is better today because the cold front came through–who knows! I can’t figure out my sinuses at all because the two days I had my headache I was over at the Memorial Campus where I can control the temperature. Here at Braddock it’s always cold but I don’t have a headache–go figure! You can ask them to adjust the temperature but thy never listen. You might as well talk to yourself. One day last month when we had cooler temperatures outside I actually wore a long sleeve blouse and a jacket! I think that was the stretch where I actually had to turn the heat back on in my house–June was a crazy month!
All this talk of tomatoes by you and Dawn is making me hungry! My dad has a couple tomato plants so hopefully I’ll get to enjoy some fresh tomatoes soon. I don’t know how far along they are but I’ll find out this weekend. I don’t have enough sunlight at my house to grow tomatoes. My sunniest spot has my rose bushes in it.
Have a great day!
Margie
Margie..
I love tomatoes too.. a couple of weeks I chopped up some tomatoes, cucumbers and green onion, mixed then all up and drizzled them with some light ranch dressing and it was delish. It would even taste better if everything was fresh from the garden. Now, I’m hungry!!
Deb
Deb, now I’m hungry, too!
Hey Margie-
Are you still having those sinus headache problems? It very well could be a seasonal allergy, maybe you should consider moving to Hawaii, i heard the weather can work wonders to clear your breathing.
About the mental illness issue. Its no laughing matter, i read 90 percent of cases happen to homeless people and out military serving overseas when they finish their tour of duty.
With all your interesting life experiences, you should consider writing a novel. I bet you will will be a NY Times number one bestseller
Take Care.
Brad,
I think my allergies are seasonal. I like your idea about moving to Hawaii! I might try that!
Mental illness is no laughing matter. I have a friend whose brother is dealing with some issues right now and it’s devastating. My previous job was in a psychiatric hospital so I’ve seen a lot of different types of mental illness. Some of them were pretty out of it, but some were pretty funny. They didn’t take themselves too seriously. I have to tell you a funny story. I doubt I can remember the exact dialog, but I do remember the punch line. One day I went to the vending area and someone asked me how I was doing. (I can’t remember if it was a patient or employee.) We must have talked about how I like my job and I said something about really liking it. A patient who was there said, “You have to be crazy to like this place!” Now I had to laugh at that, especially since it came from a patient in a psychiatric hospital! I still remember that and it happened at least 17 years ago since that’s how long it’s been since I worked there.
I’m curious where you got that 90% figure from. That sound very high to me so I’m curious where you read that. The current prevalence estimate is that about 20% of the US population is affected by mental disorders during a given year, so that would be a lot of homeless people! Let me know where you got that figure from. Thanks!
Have a great day.
Margie
Margie-
Maybe one day when you win the lottery and become super rich, then you can consider the move down there
The best thing you can do for a person suffering from a mental illness to care and be there for them. That is the best advice i can give you.
Take Care.
Margie-
I bet you always find it in your heart to spare some money or loose change to give to the a homeless person, if they even come up and ask, or if you see them suffering, all cold and starving on the street.
You are a true Angel sent from Heaven.
Hope you have a great day.
Margie-
Just from searching the internet, i dont remember the site. Plus the rate of mental illness depends on the location, in the inner cities it is more prevelant.
