CUTE BREAK

This video is from my friend Angela.  Her little dachshund Otto is such a little character!   He loves his toys - and he has so many of them, he gets overwhelmed when he sees all of them in such small quarters!   This is one of the most adorable videos I’ve ever seen.  I know you’ll like it too!  :)

Hey Janice,

I’ll have to wait until I can look at this on my home computer. It won’t work on my dad’s and I don’t want to change his settings around. He wouldn’t like that very much! The still shot looks adorable so when I go back to Cumberland tomorrow, I’ll check it out. I’m just taking an overnight trip home to get more clothes and take care of a few things. My dad looks great. If he didn’t have that oxygen tube sticking in his nose, you wouldn’t know he was sick.

I have a funny animal story to tell since you shared this video with us. I wish I had my camera this morning. The retirement community where my parents live is out in the country and behind their cottage is farmland. They get all kinds of wildlife visiting them. Well, this morning this brazen little groundhog came to visit and he insisted on trying to munch on my dad’s tomato plant. I ran out 4 times in my pajamas to chase him away. Just as soon as I sat back down to eat my breakfast, he was back. I think eventually I wore him down and he went looking for a quieter place to have breakfast. At one point he stood on the patio looking up at us as we looked out the window at him. He was a defiant little varmint!

I hope everyone is having a great weekend. Since I was off two days during the week it really doesn’t feel like Saturday to me. I’m glad I have a watch that tells me what day of the week it is!

Take care,
Margie

Hey Margie..

I am happy to hear your dad is recovering well..and I know how they are about their stuff..off limits.

That is a cute story…I see alot of critters too..deer..crane..(spell check needed)..frogs galore..my snake friends..tons of rabbits..and I have a very busy beaver in and around the pond..I think he is up to no-good..and doing damage to my dam..he may have to find himself a new address…

My weekend is going great..it is a little humid..but if I weren’t complaining about that..I’d find something else.

I love hearing about your time with your parents..it warms my soul!!!

Take care..

Hey Deb,

I’m glad you’re having a great weekend. We just missed a major league thunderstorm this afternoon. When my mom and I got ready to leave for the hospital, I noticed the sky was getting pretty dark to the west. I checked the radar and saw a really nasty looking storm nearby. I took an umbrella just in case. Well, when we left the hospital it was just drizzling lightly but the sky looked really dark to the east. When we got home I checked WeatherBug and a town to the west got over 1 1/2 inches and one to the south got almost an inch. It moved from the NW to the SE and just missed us. It did, however, cool the temperature off by 10 degrees, which was really nice since it had been about 90 when we left for the hospital.

It’s so good to see my dad looking better. He called this morning and I could tell he was feeling better because his voice was nice and strong. I can’t remember if I wrote this before, but my parents are going to see if they both can go into the nursing home for a short period of time while my dad recuperates. One of the privileges (I don’t know if that’s the right word) of being in this retirement community is that they can stay in the nursing home for up to 21 days after being discharged from the hospital. Since my mom can’t be by herself because of her health problems, it would be great if she could go there too. My mom is going to call the proper person on Monday to see if she can arrange that. We shall see. My mom has been bragging about me every time someone calls. We’ve been getting a lot of phone calls and when she tells them the story, she tells them how wonderful I’ve been and everything I’m doing to help. She’s going to give me a swelled head if she keeps that up!

I’m really enjoying cooking my specialties for her. Tonight I made roasted chicken with red potatoes and a bunch of good veggies and she really enjoyed that. One of her neighbors brought over a peach cheesecake and boy was that good! My cousin Elise and her mom made us a pan of lasagna so we’re going to have that on Monday when I come back here. My mom will be eating over at their place tomorrow. (My aunt has Alzheimer’s and Elise and her husband are living with her in my aunt’s house.) My brother will pick her up from there after he visits my dad. Thankfully, my brother is only a little over an hour away so he doesn’t have too far to come. He does, however, have two small kids so that makes it harder for him to get away. I don’t remember if I mentioned this either, but tomorrow he (and his wife, of course) are hosting a pool party for 17 friends of my little 5 year old niece. They must be crazy! I hope they hire some life guards for that big of a crowd. They have a nice sized in-the-ground pool, but I don’t think it’s big enough for kids at once.

I’m glad you enjoy reading my stories! It really helps me to share them and I know my friends on this blog care about what I have to say. That warms my soul, too! I don’t know how much longer I’ll have my parents so I’m going to take good care of them while they’re around.

I hope the rest of your weekend is great and that those little critters don’t drive you too crazy! I’ll give you an update tomorrow if our little furry friend comes back for breakfast at my parents’. If he knows what’s good for him, he better watch out!

Take care,
Margie

Hey Margie..

Glad you dodged the bullet.(the storm)..today..who needs rain when you have to go somewhere..it is better when we are indoors watching it pour…

My mom was in a nursing home for a little over a year before she passed..and she hated it.. she had so many medical issues that I couldn’t take care of her at home.. she did have 24/7 private duty nursing for awhile but it just didn’t work out…she was very stubborn and didn’t want to cooperate..so she really had no choice..but to go to the nursing home..It broke my heart because she didn’t want to be there..but it was the best place at the time. They were good to her and took good care of her..she just didn’t like the idea..Your mom and dad seems to be more understanding about those issues. Both my parents were equally stubborn.

Your dinner sounded so fancy and good..I am a chicken, tater and veggie kind of woman. And you don’t even want to get me started on cheesecake..we could be here all night…

Yes..Margie..sharing stories are very cleansing..I am a very soft-hearted and emotional person..I know I write corny things and use my silly southern words..but I truly care about people and their feelings. I don’t have a college degree and I have limited computer skills..I can clean, organize, and get most stains out of clothes, but I am an expert when it comes to matters of the heart ….and I have a very soft shoulder to lean on. Family is very important to me too..I am very protective over the ones I love…And I love happy endings..

I am looking foward to hearing many more of your stories…

Have a good night..and a gooder tomorrow..
Deb

Deb,

Thanks for sharing about your mom. If I remember correctly, it hasn’t been that long since she died. I’m glad my parents are open to the nursing home. My mom was there for a while after she had her major heart surgery. She had some pretty major complications and needed care beyond the hospital. They have a great staff at the home and she was very satisfied there. This place where they’re at has cottages for the very independent (but still have nursing care if needed); there is assisted living for those who don’t quite need total nursing home care and then, of course, is the nursing home. It’s a great place and they are well taken care of. I’m just hoping they both make it to their 50th wedding anniversary, which is next April. Yesterday we talked about what they want, which I think helped my dad think of something positive. They don’t want anything fancy, which is probably better since we don’t know what condition either one of them will be in by then.

I can tell you’re a soft-hearted person and I love the things you write–corny things and all! And by the way–a college degree is not a prerequisite to having a soft heart! As a matter of fact, my brother the lawyer graduated magna cum laude from college but he’s the exact opposite of me. He’s the brains of the family, but he doesn’t qualify for having a soft heart. I love him but I can’t share deeply personal things with him because he just makes fun of me–especially my religious beliefs. He is, however, really good at handling legal things when my parents need something. Besides, he’s the dad of my adorable little niece and nephew, so I think I’ll keep him!

Families are so important and it saddens me greatly when I see families, either local or on TV, or have such hatred for each other. I’m glad that family is important to you. That’s a great quality to have! (And you don’t need a degree or computer skills for that!)

I’m pretty tired so I think I’ll have another good night’s sleep. I’m sure I’ll have more to write tomorrow!

Take care,
Margie

Did you all hear about that gunman who opened fire at a Tennesee Church? 1 dead, and 8 people were wounded? Its really shcoking, a Church should be a place for worship, not for people to be in danger. It seems strikingly similar to an incident that happened in another Church last year.

Plus a fan was seriously injured after plunging 25 feet from the handrails of an escalator at Shea Stadium during Saturday’s New York Mets game, police and team officials said.

Any thoughts on all this?
