  • Quiet weather...not so quiet in other news!

    Good morning all,

Well, I believe another uneventful day is ahead for the Weather Machine (and the littliest Weather Intern!) There is so much exciting news happening today, and thankfully no major storms on the horizon.  We have that pesky cold front and upper level trough that continues to influence the weather in the Northeast and Midatlantic, and the Northwest is also going to see some changes heading into the weekend with a system from the Pacific moving into the region.  Otherwise, the nation’s midsection is calm and clear, and the southern U.S. is also pretty subdued with the exception of extreme south Florida that may get a rumble or two of thunder and some showers in the afternoon.

Meanwhile, the tropics are also behaving.  However, October can still be a busy month, and you never know what might pop up.  Dr. William Gray from Colorado State University and his team of forecasters released their prediction on the rest of the month in tropical activity , and they are calling for 3 more named storms, 2 hurricanes, and one major hurricane (Cat 3 or higher).   I’m not sure I’m entirely on board in supporting this prediction, but I thought it was worth mentioning since he is a respected forecaster in the field.  If you’d like to read the full story, it’s here on

Off topic here, I thought it would be worth mentioning that if you’re near a TV set in the 10 am hour, Megyn is going to wish her Nana Happy Birthday (it was yesterday).  If you’re a fan of America’s Newsroom you know how much we love to talk about Megyn’s Nana!  She sounds like such a neat lady, and I think she should be their “Senior Correspondent!”  :)   I’m going to try to get a clip of it and post it here when it happens!

Also, I am curious as to what you guys think is going to happen on tonight’s VP debate!  Are you excited to watch it?  I have to admit I’m a little nervous to watch.   I’m one of those people that never likes to see “uncomfortable moments”, and regardless of what I think of the person, I don’t like to see anyone put into a position where they don’t know what to say or how to say it.   But, that’s just me.  I’m hoping for fair questions, and straightforward answers that will help me decide who I think would do a better job as Vice President.

Ok – that’s about all for now!  Talk to you guys later!  And by the way,  Zarine just came into my office and told me how touched she was seeing the donations that came in for the MS Bike Race here in NYC after I posted it on the blog.  I all of you for being very kind, generous people.  It means more than you know.
