Santa Ana winds still a problem
Good morning!
I started the morning a little rough…I ordered a whole wheat bagel toasted with butter from one of the little deli’s across the street from FOX, and when I got to my office and opened the tin-foil, there was a thoroughly burnt bagel! You do not want to be in the same room with a 6 months pregnant woman when she’s looking forward to her little toasted and buttered bagel…and instead finds a blackened breakfast just inches away from her expanding waistline and hungry baby inside! UGH. I was so hungry I ate part of it, and threw the rest away. I wished I had the energy to walk right back across the street and scream at the man who burned my bagel!
Ok, thanks for letting me rant. I’m going to have to sneak a little green-room snack before I head to my weather desk! My advice of the day is always open up the tinfoil and check your breakfast before you head out of the deli!
In weather news, unfortunately we have another day of Santa Ana winds making life very difficult for firefighters and residents in Southern California today. Gusts of up to 70 mph along with dry vegetation will bring extreme danger to the region for the rest of today. Thankfully, winds should calm down tomorrow, and that will hopefully allow those brave firefighters a break in the weather to contain the already out of control fires.
Across the nation’s midsection, we have a stalled front that will be the focus for heavy rain and or isolated thunderstorms across the Plains. Flooding will be a threat for this area throughout the day.
And in the tropics, we’re still watching Tropical Depression 15 which will more than likely become Omar today. There’s also an area of disturbed weather east of Central America that could also become TD 16 today. Neither of these storms will affect the U.S, but will bring heavy rains to Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Nicaragua, Honduras and Belize.
I will post an Open Blog for you guys in a second - sorry it slipped my mind yesterday!

Hey Janice,
I’m sorry your breakfast was a bummer! That must have been disappointing. You know, if I could arrange it, I’d have something delivered to you so you could indulge yourself and your baby! I hope you find something satisfying in the green room. Your story reminds me of the time my friend Carol and I ordered hamburgers from a local restaurant and had them delivered to us at Braddock Hospital. When we got them, they were so burnt we couldn’t eat them. They were so hard we could tap them on the counter and they made noise! We called up the place and they brought us new burgers and we showed the driver the crispy ones. It takes some nerve to serve that kind of stuff to people. So much for quality assurance!
The weather here in Western Maryland continues to be delightful. It was chilly and foggy this morning when I came to work but the sun is shining brightly now. I love this kind of weather, so I’ll enjoy it while it lasts since it’s supposed to cool down later this week.
I hope the rest of your day goes better than it started out this morning!
Take care,
Margie
I think I will avoid that deli from now on Margie! I was able to grab a little bran muffin close by soon after the burnt bagel episode!
Morning Janice,
I didn’t say Good, cuz you got a burnt bagel, and there nothing good about that!! I would have taken it back and demanded a fresh one, or make sure I mention it the next time, so they can replace it. For Free!!
I hope the conditions improve in California soon…
We are still in the 80’s..but our local forecaster says after the middle of the week, we will be getting normal temps in the 70’s and more fall-like…
I hope the rest of your day goes better..
Deb
I would’ve loved to have taken it back, but it would’ve been too much effort, and I didn’t feel much like walking (waddling) back!
I won’t go back there again! The last time I ordered the same thing, and they hardly put any butter on it!! Two strikes you’re out with the preggie lady.
Hi Janice!
Thank God you aren’t armed!!! (haha)
That would be one dead bagel cooker there! A nice mix of frustration and hormones. I can see you doing Joe Pescis part from the Lethal Weapon movie when he gets the wrong sandwhich and goes into the diatribe about drive throughs. (They know you’ll be miles away before you discover they ****d you!)
I think you can get a free bagel next time though! Threaten him with a pistol whipping!
I see you worked Thanksgiving. We went to the Capitals/Canucks game which was “Canadian Culture Appreciation Night”. My daughter won a prize because she knew the Capital of B.C. (Victoria of course) and the Caps played great. I did the hockey Dad thing Saturday morning (4am practice) and Sunday (8am game) so I was catching up on some zzzz’s yesterday.
GREAT PHOTOS MARGIE!!
Have a nice day everyone!!
Yeah, I worked…my family in Canada had a lovely Thanksgiving though! The weather was wonderful, and the turkey was yummy! I had a hamburger instead…
That’s not the same deli that’s run by MSNBC’s Keith Olberman’s cousin is it?
Hmmm…not sure where that deli is….
I love bagels, too. When I went shopping last week, I bought two packages of Sara Lee onion bagels, six bagels per package. My roommate and I limit ourselves to one bagel per day, but I had two one day, and I think she did, too. We simply toast them in our four-slice Hamilton Beach toaster.
I also love Stouffer’s lasagna and have been enjoying it since the early 1970’s. I normally bake it in the oven following the directions on the package.
Recently, Stouffer changed the size of their lasagna packaging, a sly way of charging a high price. About two months ago, I bought their “Family Size” package of lasagna for about $9.00 and followed their microwave instructions. To my disappointment, I burnt the lasagna and had to toss it out.
I phoned Stouffer’s the next day and complained. I said they should change the microwave instructions. The rep sent me a coupon so I could get another “Family Size” package of lasagna for free and coupons for some other Stouffer products.
I redeemed the coupon for the “Family Size” package of lasagna and cooked it in our oven. It came out perfectly!
The point of this is that it is always good to complain when you buy something that doesn’t turn out right through no fault of your own.

Mmmm lasagna!!!!
Oh my someone not treating JD with respect to make sure she get’s her morning snack. You should get a Fox intern to do all those little errands JD.
Hey George go to a site called http://www.mouseprint.org many companies are reducing the size and increasing the prices, consumer watchout! Lasagna would be good for lunch. Mmmmmmmm
Today (Tuesday is Election day here in Canada)
Ms. Janice,
Sounds like an old Moe & Curley moment.
Curley: “I’ll have a soft boiled egg and 2 pieces of burn toast”.
Moe: “What kind of breakfast is that?”
Cirley: “I have a tapeworm and that’s good enough for him” Nyuk, Nhyuk, Nyuk.

JD - I’m pretty sure that burning a bagel in NYC is a punishable offense … I think you need to get Ray Kelly on the case …
George - If you want some really good bagels, hot & fresh, 24/7 … Go up to Western Bagel on Sepulveda in Van Nuys as that’s the big bagel factory … When I lived in LA, we used to do 2am bagel runs to get the pizza bagels …
Peter - Good luck on the elections … Personally, I would love to see Stephen Harper get re-elected as he’s a good friend to the USA …
There are a lot of good & amazing photos from the SoCal fires (Sesnon & Marek) on the two local newspapers’ websites … DailyNews.com and LATimes.com … Including pix of the Canuck helos / planes that LA City/County have rented/leased …
Of course, there are the obligatory pix of the people with their homes up against the hills … that have all kinds of tinderbox dry brush that’s NOT been cleared away …
That’s not the same deli that’s run by MSNBC’s Keith Olberman’s cousin is it?
No isint that Bagle shop called Keith’s in the tank for Obama?
Oh Janice it sounds like you needed a hug after that. Although it makes me wish I had a bagle this morning instead of that cereal bar and few mint meltaways George will tell you but yes they are made by Fannie Mae (Candy company not the Mortgage lender) I dont know JD sounds like Megyn should represent you in that case against the Bagel Shop and maybe we can get The Judge to hear the case LMAO
I second what George said about calling the company when you have issues with a product. When my oldest (now 11) was a baby, I had issues with a particular diaper brand. I called the company to see if it was an issue with the diaper or operator error. They sent me some free stuff (as well as coupons) and apologized profusely because I had problems (which could have just as easily been my fault).
Election results: The national tv network called the election for Prime Minister Stephen Harper 45 minutes after the poles closed. With almost exactly the same results as when the election was called. A strong Minority government. So Canada’s close relationship will hopefully continue after the US election is over. I don’t see Obama being overly friendly to Canada, Democrats aren’t usually friendly to Canada, e.g. Sen. Robert Bryd’s amendement in the trade law where it seen our soft wood lumber companies taxed and punished. Shameful.
