  • Fun Snow in Las Vegas!

I’m sure you’ve seen some of the pictures and or video of the snow in Las Vegas yesterday.  3.6 inches was a record for the most snow in the month of December, and the most snow they’ve received since 1979.

In this photo provided by the Las Vegas News Bureau, snow covers the sides and sphinx of the Luxor Hotel on the Las Vegas Strip Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008. A rare winter storm in the desert left inches of snow on the palm trees and marquees of the Las Vegas Strip, as forecasters predicted up to 3 inches could accumulate overnight. We also saw some pretty impressive totals out of Southern California and into Arizona as well.  This storm in the Southwest is the one that is going to cause a pretty big mess over the central U.S. today and tonight.  Freezing rain and ice storm warnings are up for a good chunk of the Midsection.   Here’s the link to all of the various watches and warnings across the U.S.

This system will also make a journey into the Northeast where we could get a widespread swath of 4-6 inches of new snow with higher totals in the mountains.

The second storm that’s currently bringing snow and rain to the Northwest is the next one in line to cross the Plains and into the Midwest heading into the weekend.  And, it looks like we will have a third storm that might give the northeast a nice white Christmas Eve which I would love to see.

Speaking of white Christmas, meteorologically speaking here’s what the chances are of seeing snow on the ground December 25th across the U.S:

That’s about all I have for now, and don’t forget to send your pictures if you have some of the snow in your neighborhood or perhaps some fun holiday decorations!
