Evening/morning folks, July 2nd here in the OV, it poured rain most of the day, I did some routine things, didn't get to bike. Hopefully Friday is nice. HAPPY 4TH of July everyone. :) Enjoy some good food, some fireworks etc. :) Ran into some US people in the supermarket tonight, I could tell, from their sexy southern accents, so I asked, and the one woman was from Georgia. :) JD, you have to understand boys don't like beans. :) I would spit them out too. haahah Glad to hear Matthew is looking forward to getting food with his spoon. :) It's really special. :)

Hey Janice, Allison took to veggies right away. Try sweet potatoes or carrots. We also fed her beats. Watch out for that first beat poop. I'm not sure if you are making your own baby food, but that's what we did so maybe homemade stuff is better than store bought. We have feed Allison store bought baby food but it seems like she liked the homemade stuff better. We now are trying to feed her cheese, eggs, bread and meat. She likes toast and cheese sometimes. Eggs not so much. Some meat but she loves fruit. Also gram crackers she likes and the yogurt melts are like crack for babies. Allison is now walking with so much confidence. She is also getting more and more playful. She can say bye-bye, night-night, puppies, Mama, rock, kitty-cat and sometimes Daddy. She is the best baby ever. Well hope you have a great 4th weekend. I had fishing planned but they closed king salmon fishing in most of the river up here. So maybe just a cookout with family. Well take care,

JD...................HOW we love your emails, how precious that Matthew already learned to look forward to seeing his spoon, what a smartie he already is. And.........your description was so cute and funny and would have LOVED to have seen a picture of that little face..............PRICELESS. Happy Canada and 4th............ Clare and AJ

Hey Don, I knew you were! I laughed when I read it, but then I got to thinking that it's not very funny because stupid people do enough stupid things and when you add alcohol to the mix it's even worse. It's amazing what people will do with alcohol in their system. Margie

Margie I was being facetious.

Hey Don, Alcohol and explosives--they go so well together, don't they? (NOT!) My cousin Paul is visiting his mom over the weekend and my parents and I have been invited to join them. Paul usually brings plenty of illegal fireworks with him. I can hardly wait. Margie

Hi JD First time blogging here always watch your blog. when my daughter was little (31 Now) i would puree the food my family ate put in ice cube trays then melt it the next day for her she loved it. i didn't like using baby food to many names in it i could not say. i love the pictures of you and your family. I also would buy the teething cookies for her can't remember the name of them it started with a Z or i would give her a home made ice pop frozen juice she would make a mess but it helped her teeth and she would have a smile on her dirty little face. I hope this helps. have a happy fourth of July all

So, Janice, tell the truth . . . did YOU and/or SEAN try the green beans???? :) As I recall, my son's favorite vegetable when he was a baby were the sweet potatoes, but, ironically, he won't touch sweet potatoes today. Go figure! We're looking forward to a busy weekend. I'm taking the hubby to see the Star Trek movie today. Tomorrow our niece and her fiance are popping in for a visit. They live in NC, they are the one's whose wedding we will be going to in October. He is from Texas, so we're included on their Texas family tour. July 4 we will be spending with some of my husband's coworkers and their families at a cookout/pool party. Sunday we're busy with church stuff, then hubby heads out again Monday for a work related trip. I hope everyone has a happy and blessed 4th of July - God Bless America!!!

Hey JD, Happy belated Canada Day! We enjoyed great weather yesterday here in Toronto and great fireworks in Pickering! I totally agree with the suggestion from DeLynn, orange veggies would be a great start for Mathew....give it a whirl, he will love them! Take it easy and Happy 4th of July, say hi to hubby and hugs to Matthew!

JD, I am glad you and Matthew had a happy day off yesterday, despite the green bean incident. It is hard to figure out what foods the little ones will like and dislike. I still remember vividly giving the first foods to my daughter(she is now 25). Margie, sorry to hear about the bad peaches. I just returned from the local farmer's market where I purchased some peaches and tomotoes. I would send you some frsh epaches, but they would be soft and spoiled by the time they got there. A very Happy 4th of July wish to all and safe traveling to those who are on the road this weekend. JB

Hi Janice, We found with our four (who are now 20, 18, 15, and 10) that the orange vegetables (carrots, squash, sweet potatoes) went down much more easily than the green ones---especially at first. Perhaps Matthew will be the same. I enjoy your blog---and of course the pictures of Matthew. (Does everyone think he looks like his daddy? I sure think so from the pictures!) Glad you enjoyed Canada Day! We saw the fireworks in Ottawa a few years ago---lots of fun!

Hey Janice, I'm trying to picture Matthew's face when he tasted those green beans! I probably had a similar look on my face this morning. I got what looked like delicious peaches from the cafeteria. Well, when I bit into one I discovered that it was crunchy & very sour--yuck! I never had crunchy peaches before & I hope I never have them again! I hope Matthew has many pleasant experiences as he tries new foods. I got home right before the rain came yesterday evening. When I left work the sun was shining so I didn't take an umbrella, but there were some dark clouds around & it was drizzling on my way to my car. It was weird having rain & sun at the same time. Later in the afternoon/evening we had some thunder & wound up with almost a 1/2 in. of rain. It's really cloudy this morning but so far we haven't gotten any rain. Today I'm in the hospital where I have windows so it's nice to be able to look outside. I'm working on the layout for my new library. I'm glad I'll have more space in the building where my office is than I originally thought so that will make up for the lousy shelving over in the physician lounge in the main hospital. Now I have to recalculate all my space to see what will go where. It's quite an interesting project. The new hospital is amazing--it's huge! The cafeteria is huge. They designed it like a food court so we'll have different areas to go to for various kinds of food--yummy! I hope it's better than the peaches I had this morning! Have a great day!
