Tony Williams, Author, "Hurricane of Independence"
Margie, Don't mean to rub it in, but . . . I forced myself to stay inside to work on revising my book on the computer this morning (after having breakfast and doing my suduko on the deck that is), but I just couldn't take it anymore. I found the gift certificate my wife got me to the coffeehouse (that was "lost" in my copy of Thucydides I was reading last month), and went and sat outside sipping my latte and reading a book on hot-air ballooning that I'm using for a lecture on Thursday. Boy, did I feel like a writer today! Now, if I could only make as much as the baggers at the grocery store, I would be set! ;) In short, about the most beautiful weather you could ever ask for today! Hey Gwen, Great story about your guys! It took a lot of courage to get that close to a propane tank with all those flames around. They did a great job! I had another adventure on my way home from work today. I was already worked up when I left work because I got myself into a serious computer issue on the computer in my office. I'm usually really careful about opening up attachments in unknown e-mails but this e-mail was from a friend and I wound up getting a spyware program on my computer that I couldn't uninstall. At least I have an IT department to call on but I hate bothering them. They were working on my computer when I left. I was worked up from that and on the 5 mile trip home from the hospital, I had two cars that didn't yield and the one in the pickup truck came within about a foot of slamming into the side of my car. I've never seen so many people failing to yield when turning left as I see in this city! I was so worked up that I decided not to go to my meeting at church this evening. I'd have to go through that same intersection where I almost got hit and I don't feel like inflicting that upon myself again. I stretched out on my bed for a while when I got home to calm down a little and now I need something to eat since my stomach is crying out "feed me, feed me!" I hope everyone has a great evening! Let me try this again. I left out a hyphen. http://www.navarrepress.com/200908281620/the-news/beach/good-samaritans-save-beach-home.html Hopefully, that'll get you there.

Afternoon everybody, Hope everyone is having a good day. Mine has been going quite well actually. The weather is lovely and my payroll has gone as smooth as silk this week. (Knocking wood as I say that. Things can always change at the last minute, you know.) Gina, good to hear you're getting cooler weather. Sixty days of 100+ is pretty brutal. Hey Deb, Dawn, Don, Todd, and anyone else who happens to drop by. Margie, glad you weren't hurt by the ambulance. That would have made for a bizarre headline, but it could have been really bad if you'd gotten hit. Two of my guys who are on a jobsite at Milton, FL (northwestern FL) were Good Samaritans last week and actually saved a house from a fire. Here's the story: http://www.navarrepress.com/200908281620/the news/beach/good-samaritans-save-beach-home.html Hope this goes through without getting sucked up like they sometimes do. I'm quite proud of my guys. They are 2 really good men. Mark told the fireman that first arrived on the scene, "Butch, you can leave. We've got this under control." The strange thing is that there were several people watching the fire burn, but not trying to put it out. My guys just happened to be driving down the street and saw the fire. Maybe none of those spectators had a fire extinguisher handy. Gotta go. Catch y'all later. Gwen :)

Happy September, Everyone. Can't believe how the year is flying by! We finally have a break in our heat wave down here in Texas (knock wood). The humidity levels are down and the highs all week are forecast to be in the low 90's. Considering we have had over 60 days with 100+ temps, this qualifies as a cold snap!! :) Have a great afternoon, All.

I forgot to mention in my last post that it got down to 48 degrees this morning--brrrrrrr! I had on long sleeves and a jacket and a woman was outside in shorts and a t-shirt--go figure! Hey Deb and Todd! Deb, it's certainly feeling like fall around here with a low of 48 degrees. My house was cold this morning! Have a great day. Margie

Hey Janice, I just saw Domenica doing the weather so I figured you had the day off today. I hope all your appointments go well. Hey to all the other bloggers out there! I hope everyone is having a great day. I'm stuck in the hospital with no windows today and I'm missing an absolutely gorgeous looking day outside. I was just in the cafeteria at lunch and I got a chance to look out the big windows and see the clearest blue sky and the mountains looking absolutely gorgeous with a temperature of 72. I have a funny story to share. Actually, it is only funny because nothing happened but it could have turned out different. I left work yesterday and started crossing the street. There's a crest of a hill just up the street a little from the back entrance of the hospital so I always make sure no one pops over the hill at the last second. Well, I heard something yesterday but it sounded far enough away. I just got into the street when an ambulance came flying over the hill with no sirens or lights. I found out how fast my bad knees could get me out of the way! It would have been pretty bad getting run over by an ambulance but I was just a half a block away from the ER entrance so they wouldn't have had too far to take me! It would have made an interesting headline in the paper about how an ambulance flattened a hospital employee. Well, I'm running out of room so I'll wish everyone a great afternoon! Margie
