  • Wicked Northeast storms, and Hey Paula!

    Good morning everyone!

A little sleepy today.  The whole family all ended up in the same bed last night due to some pretty noisy storms!  We had some good sized hail, strong winds and heavy rain roll through the region last night.  One of my fabulous producers here at Fox,  Ken Tucker snapped this amazing photo last night in Brooklyn Heights.    Pretty impressive stuff!

Thankfully things quiet down today, but it looks like we’re going to see our first nor’easter of the season by the end of this week, so that will keep things interesting.  As long as the weekend improves, I’m ok with storms during the workweek!

Meantime, the Mississippi Valley could see some natural fireworks this afternoon with hail and damaging winds.   The storm prediction center has issued a “slight risk” for the area shaded in yellow where things could get a little frisky:

A cold front pushing through the Midwest will bring some scattered storms through the day, but nothing too severe. Behind the front, cooler air will sink in while ahead of the front, warmer than average temperatures will hang around.

And Hurricane Season keeps on churning with our 9th hurricane of the season named Paula. The system is going to hang around for a few days and meander east of Mexico. Hurricane warnings are in effect for the coast of Mexico including Cozumel. It doesn’t look like this storm is going to affect the U.S., but will bring heavy rain for parts of Belize, the Yucatan Peninsula, and Cuba.

In other news, Matthew is going to be Elmo this  Halloween.  Just got his costume in the mail the other day.  I’m just hoping he stays in it long enough to get a few good pictures!  Our little neighborhood looks really great with all sorts of spooky decorations.  It’s going to be so much fun taking Matthew around the area for his first trick or treat outing.  I think I’ll put on an orange sweater and say I’m the Great Pumpkin! :)

    Talk to you soon!

I like the Halloween costume you picked out for Matthew. Please post a few photos for us, Janice! Years ago, my wife dressed as Raggedy Ann. Our friends Karen and Lionel dressed as a witch and Dracula. I had a seamstress friend make a ghost outfit for me complete with hood from a white sheet. We went to the annual Black Drag Queen Ball in Chicago for black hairdressers. You have no idea how they booed me as my friends and I walked in with me looking like a member of the KKK! George Spink

Afternoon guy! Well, it was supposed to rain today. We did have clouds...but nary a drop of rain. Back to a beautiful, blue-sky afternoon. Ho hum. Hi Don, hope the brats tasted good. Glad to see you chiming in again. JD, your little Elmo will be precious and you will quite a lovely Great Pumpkin. Deb, you're right. The leaves are drying up and falling. Little color here so far. Hello to Margie, AJ, PJ and anybody else that might check in. Hope y'all have a great day! Gwen :)

Hey Janice, I agree with Margie. Lil Matt will light up an Elmo costume! And there's nothing like a Great Pumpkin sidekick! Although I love a stormy night, I don't care for the ones that make me lose sleep either. I hope you get rested tonight. (Storm-free) It's cloudy here and 73, w/a chance of an afternoon showers. So, far it's afternoon and no showers yet. We need rain, it's very dry and the leaves seem to be falling without ever changing color. Have a good day.TTYL Deb

Hey Janice, I'm sure Matthew will make the cutest Elmo ever! I hope you'll share a picture with us. And if you wear an orange sweater, you'll be the most beautiful Great Pumpkin ever! As far as the weather around here--it's warm! We actually have a heat index today. I had to run the A/C in my car because the sun was so hot. What crazy weather! Hey to everyone else out there. I hope everyone had a great weekend and that everyone has a great week! Margie

If you can set your camera to aperture priority and set it on a tripod during a storm you will get great pictures automatically.
