  • Record cold temps!

    Good morning everyone!

Well, as expected, the big story around the eastern half of the country is the extreme COLD air that is breaking records all over the place.  Temperatures are up to 30 degrees below average!

Lake effect snow continues to pile up across the Northeast and Midwest while an icy mix of rain, sleet, freezing rain will develop over the Plains and then move across the Mississippi and Tennessee Valleys Wednesday night and Thursday.  Take a look at our “future-cast” and the winter weather advisories:

And the  Northwest is getting pounded again  more rain, wind and snow.  Flood warnings are still up for Western Washington keeping many rivers at flood stage:

You know how much I love your pictures, and my friend Deb who just moved to Virginia from New York sent me this one on Facebook.   She lives in Midlothian, Virginia right outside of Richmond where they received about 2″ of snow.  Just enough to make it a pretty picture!

And ”OldBroad_Ohio” sent me this one of Buckeye Lake, Ohio on twitter:

The same storm system that buried our Midwest is causing major travel problems north of the border.  Highway 402 outside of Sarnia, Ontario has been declared a “Natural disaster area” due to snow and blowing snow that has left over 300 vehicles stranded since yesterday!  We showed video of it just a few minutes ago on “Happening Now”  and if you want to read the story, you can click HERE

The first official day of winter arrives NEXT Tuesday believe it or not.

It’s also worth mentioning that while many of us brave the “deep freeze”  they are breaking record HIGHS across Southern California and Arizona!  Lucky ducks!

That’s about it for now.  Thinking about lunch…since it’s so “chilly” I think I might have to find some hot chili!  LOL!

    Talk to y’all soon!

Well, now we have more spam! I'll just add that I checked my weather diary and we've had 5 days in a row with low temperatures in the teens. I got my natural gas bill yesterday & December is averaging 6 degrees lower than last year. What was this about global warming????? Margie

Hi folks, I just thought I'd post something so you don't see the spam the first thing. It's another cold morning in Cumberland. We've had so many low temperatures in the teens that I've lost count of how many days, It's 18 now but there's not much wind, so that's good. I hope everyone has a great day! Margie

Hi guys! Just checking in to see if anything's happening. Margie, you're right. It is very quiet here today. Much warmer in my hood today...upper 50s after several days that didn't get out of the 30s. Must hurry. Several things to do before I leave for the afternoon. Catch y'all later. Gwen :)

Well, I see it's been pretty quiet on the blog today. It's a little warmer today than it has been recently. It's all the way up to 27! It's still windy but not as bad as yesterday. When I was out earlier I saw another wind turbine blade being transported on the highway. They must be building a huge one somewhere because I've seen a number of huge round cylinders too, & I'm guessing those are for the vertical part. It's pretty wild seeing them on the hwy! Have a great afternoon, all! Margie

Hey PJ, I'm going to put a link to Twitter on my web site soon. I'm also working on a Facebook page that I'll have the link to on my site. I can't imagine Janice would be interested in following me on Twitter. Hey AJ, I never thought I'd be interested in getting involved in all the social media stuff but with losing my job & needing some exposure for my business & blog, I figured I better get with the times! I still prefer e-mail since I'm so long-winded--HA! Have a good evening, all. Margie

I wonder what spin Al Gore would put on these record temperatures. These cold temperatures are not just affecting the United States but they are being felt in Europe. Several countries are experiencing record cold autumns. Damn I hate this global warming. LMAO

I'm back again. It's been so quiet at the gallery today so I spent some time setting up a Twitter account. I joined the other day but just got around to setting up my profile & stuff. It's not quite done yet but I'm getting there. If anyone on this blog tweets, check me out at Saying things in 500 characters is enough of a challenge so I can imagine saying things in 140 characters will be a huge challenge--HA! Margie

Hey folks, I'm working at the art gallery this afternoon filling in for someone who couldn't make it. It's been really quiet because who wants to walk around outside when the wind chill is around 0? It's still better than out in Garrett County where the temperature is 8 & the wind chill is -6! They have snow up there, too. That's why the woman couldn't make it in today. I can't say I blame her for not wanting to try! We close at 6 so I don't have too much longer. Have a good evening, all. Margie

...still another made each an ornament. All were to be very inexpensive, but made by our own hands. It was kind of a neat idea, because you had to put a little thought and time into the gift. We all had quite a lot of fun! And, of course, there was all kinds of food. I was stuffed when I left. Gotta get back on my healthy eating kick....after Christmas. I hope each of you has a really good day! Stay warm! Gwen :)

Hi all! We're cold again here today. Yesterday never got out of the 30s, low was 17 this morning at my house. It's still in the 30s here, but supposed to get up to a blazing 42 later today. That will be a welcome change. At least the winds have died down. Went to a Christmas party last night...ladies Sunday School class. We each made a gift for the others. I gave goodies (pecan pie cake, almond bark covered pretzels, etc). One of the ladies knitted scarves, another made aprons...

Good afternoon All, We are setting records in my area too. Our normal temps for this time of the year are low 50's daytime, low 30's nightime. we are currently 15, and last night -5. We are under a winter Storm Watch until Thursday. I'm one of the lucky ones in the Ice Zone. (not) On a positive not, the sun is shining bright, so that helps with the negative stuff. JD enjoy your chili. Margie your season greeting was wonderful. Thank you. Enjoy Tuesday Y'all! Deb
