  • The Central U.S. gets baked

    Hi everyone.

Another huge heatwave.  This one reaching as far north as Minnesota and Wisconsin.

The humidity is the real problem with heat index values reaching 105-115.

This one is expected to last through the week and push east.

We’re also watching our second tropical storm of the season, Bret:

Good news, though. Bret is expected to move off to sea and not become a hurricane.

Feeling a little under the weather today.  My little guy is teething, and keeping mama awake.  Poor guy.  Wish I could take his pain away.

Keep cool everyone.  Remember, winter is just around the corner, and we’ll be complaining about the cold soon enough!

Yeah some rain in the HOTX would be soooooo great. Our livestock is suffering, no matter what we are trying to ease the heat. I pray for rain every day, oh Lord plz hear my prayer.....then we see that hay growers/deliveries are taking advantage of our situation here in TX.... how sad... we should all stick together and help each other out... by the way, our 5 mo old grandson just had his bottom two front teeth show in full force... so congrats to you Janice and I will keep the whiskey for myself

NOAA has upped its peak heat index prediction for D.C. Friday to a stunning, sweltering 116 degrees. Remarkably, it predicts there is a 90 percent chance it will reach at least 110 and a 100 percent chance of at least 105. Earlier today, NOAA was predicting a maximum heat index of 109 Friday. And poor Richmond, Va.! NOAA projects its heat index will soar to a stifling 118 degrees.

Hey folks, I think a snow storm would be good about now! I feel for all those with the truly oppressive heat. We've been hot but the heat index has "only" been around 100 & not 131! PJ, I haven't heard about the job yet. I thought I would hear something early this week but nothing yet. Hopefully I will soon. Everybody, please be careful out in the heat. Stay inside if you can! Take care, all. Margie

Y'all have made me laugh today! We too used the whiskey trick on our boys. I remember even putting a little Jack Daniels in Nick's apple juice when he was a baby to help with the colic. All very legit back then...but now would be frowned upon. It helped...and he's none the worse for a little Jack in his juice. PJ, BG, JB...all our TX folks, I know you're suffering with this heat/drought. Have a good friend in Bastrop, TX...never do feel like I can complain...she can top it. TTFN! Gwen :)

Good morning all. Don I remember when my girl was little the Dr said put some whiskey on her gums and a shot for me. Boy times were so much simpler then. Even when I was young and lost a tooth or had a tooth ache the Dr said Whiskey. Maybe that is why I don't drink. ha ha Margie please send the 90's here then we would be having a cold front. 18 straight 100 and no rain. Oh the Summers in TX. Hope all are well and cool. Margie any news on the job yet? PJ

Janice...Here is what to do. Get a bottle of Courvoisier VSOP. If Sean is home, put 2 OZ in a snifter. If he is not home just put a straw in the bottle. Sweet dreams.

Hey Folks, I hope everyone is dealing with the heat without too many problems. My air conditioners are working overtime. We had another 90+ degree day today. This weather has been pretty crazy lately. Did anyone watch the soccer game yesterday? I was really bummed. The U.S. should have one but if they had to lose to someone, I'd rather it be Japan since they've been through so much this year. I hope everyone has a great week! Margie

Remember when one of my sons was teething. His doctor by the way was Joyce Brothers, broth-in-law. He said to rub brandy on his gums. I found drinking the brandy worked much better. Enough brandy his teething never bothered me.
