  • Tropical Storm Don? Texas needs you!

    Hi everyone!

Well, looks like we could have a tropical depression/storm forming very soon!  A nice big blob (Don I’m not referring to you here!  :) is developing off the coast of Cancun:

Here’s what the computer models are thinking if/when this develops into a named storm:

Waters are plenty warm for tropical development:

Ultimately, this could be very welcome news to Texas as over 70 percent of the state is into exceptional drought, and of course the record breaking heat has been tough to say the least for Texans.  Obviously we don’t need a major hurricane to hit the coast, but a good tropical storm or even a minimal hurricane would help this region tremendously.  We’ll have to see what happens in the next 24 hours.

The next name on the tropical storm list is: DON!

Meanwhile, we’re still dealing with extreme heat across the country.   Here are the latest heat advisories:

Meanwhile, we had some nasty storms across the Northeast last night – one report of a tornado across Oneida New York!   The other storm reports were mainly wind damage from Pennsylvania up into Maine.   It certainly cooled things off nicely though.  This morning was beautiful.  We’re expecting another mini-heat wave this weekend.

    Talk to you soon!

We're here just north of Dallas and today will be day number 27 straight over 100..Crop fields are brown and shriveled. Animals are dying and getting sent to the slaughterhouse early. it's BAD. When I was growing up I saw pictures of the dustbowl of the 30's and the dry parced earth...well if you took a photo in black and white today ...you would be hard pressed to tell the difference.

Hey AJ, my cousin lives near my parents so we'll be going to the Ruby Tuesday where I go with my parents. I hope Stacy is working tomorrow because I haven't been there for a while & I want to share my good news. I just checked WeatherBug & the dew point is 50--wow! We're supposed to have a low of around 64 tonight--I'll need a blanket with a temperature like that! We haven't had a low temp. in the 60's for over a week so it will be a nice relief. Have a great afternoon/evening! Margie

JD, many's the time we've wished for a "nice little hurricane" to break a particularly bad dry spell. Here's hoping that TX gets just what it needs and nothing more. We've been almost 2 weeks with temps no more than upper 80s and rain showers for the past several days. Have gotten around 7 inches of rain at my house this past week. Some are beginning to complain about the rain...but not me. I'll take this over 95-100 any day of the week. Hope all are having a good day. TTFN! Gwen :)

Janice, I hope those poor folks in TX get some rain. They certainly could use it. Here in Cumberland it is an absolutely beautiful day. It's pretty warm (90) but with a humidity of 33% & dew point of 56, it doesn't feel bad at all. However, sitting in a closed up car is another thing! It's so clear & the mountains look so lovely--I'm loving it! Tomorrow I'm going out to lunch with my cousin & a friend to celebrate my new job. I'm looking forward to that! I hope everyone has a great day! Margie
