  • Record Breaking Rain in NY!

    Hi everyone!

Hope you had a great weekend!    We had BIGTIME rain yesterday around the New York area.   It was the type of rain you would see with a tropical storm/weak hurricane!  You could certainly compare yesterday’s storm totals with Hurricane Floyd back in 1999 which brought widespread rainfall amounts of 4-7 inches across the New York area.  We hit a record at JFK’s airport!  7.6 inches is the most ever recorded there in a single day.   The previous record of 6.3 inches was set in 1983.

My family and I decided to brave the rain and head to the Science Museum in Queens.    Luckily we were able to get there and back without too much trouble.   I had no idea we were going to see rainfall amounts like that otherwise I don’t think we would’ve left the house!

In other weather news, the tropics are fired up – but thankfully these storms are curving out to sea and not affecting anyone.  We’re already up to “Gert”…but as you can see this one is just east of Bermuda with the worst of the storm off shore:

There are a couple more tropical waves we are watching closely off the coast of Africa, and we’re ramping up into peak season in the tropics.

That’s it for now!  Hope you’re all doing well.  I promise to get this weird spam issue looked at today…I had to delete over a dozen posts this am!

Some time before, I needed to buy a building for my corporation but I did not earn enough money and could not purchase anything. Thank goodness my dude proposed to try to take the business loans at reliable bank. Therefore, I did that and used to be satisfied with my commercial loan.

When I was eight years old my parents took me to see the original Broadway show, South Pacific. Stars were Mary Martin and Ezio Pinza. Was my first broadway show and still remember much of it. I'm older then dirt.

Oh man, I see the concert thing is still going on. We get lots of concerts in our area between The Jimmie Rodgers Festival (Father of Country Music) and the casino. Margie, I would have loved to have seen Anne Murray. Hubby saw her in Vegas while on a military trip there. He said she was FANTASTIC! I can't think of the worst concert. I know they haven't all been good. We did see a new, young entertainer back in the early 90s. My kids said "Garth who?" when I told them I had tickets. :)

At the Va and NC border there is a place called The Great Dismal Swamp. It has been burning for a couple weeks now. 200 fireman from around the United states have been fighting it. Today the winds are coming from the south and the smoke is covering Richmond. There is an air quality alert because of it and we are going back to 90. Last week I was happy buying gas at 3.25 a gal. Today it's 3.14

The worse or most boring show I ever saw was Sergio Franchi. The first time I saw Bill Cosby (in Vegas) the show was funny. Seventeen years later I saw him in Atlantic City and it was the exact same show I saw seventeen years before. Talk about milking something.

I love all this action on the blog. It's fun! Dolores had mentioned about early childhood memories and I remember an incident that happened when I was about 3 or 4. I won't describe it because the only reason why I remember anything about it because I was sick. I'll spare you those details! Margie

Janice, Anne Murray is a sweetheart. My friend & I almost talked our way backstage to meet her after a concert. She did sign an album for me when one of the workers took it back. I wrote to her after that & thanked her for signing my album. I asked for an autographed picture, hoping that someone would stick one in an envelope & mail it to me. I was in college at the time. I was pleasantly surprised to not only get a response, but she personalized it to me. That was sweet! I still have it! Margie

Hi JB my worst was Van Halen at the Garden they started 45 mins late. The place smelled of pot people were drunk and Sammy Hagar and Eddie were Stoned out of there minds and they sure didn't sound good. Little to say 3 songs in I left. PJ Margie I would Love to see Donna Summers.

JB in Texas

It is really interesting seeing what concerts have been attended by the crew in here. Now that we know everyone's first concert, what is the worst concert you have ever attended? My worst two were Dr. Hook(cover of the Rolling Stone) and Diana Ross. Dr. Hook was horrible and insulted the crowd numerous times for not appreciating them(smart move). Diana Ross played in a huge arena, but had a show more suited for a small venue(numerous costume changes, who cares in the nosebleed section?) Later,JB

Hey Don (and all), Donna Summer puts on a great show. I think she sounds even better now than she did before, if that's possible. I've seen her 3 times in recent years and she's amazing. If anyone has the chance to see her, you definitely should. You won't be disappointed. I forgot to mention that I saw Gloria Estefan in concert--3 days before her bus accident. That woman can put on a show, too! Have a great evening, all! Margie

BGINTX.

Good afternoon everybody. I went to see George Strait and set in the back stage when he played at the University here many years ago. He and I share the same birthday, May 18th. Last year he sent me a picture. We were in London in 1981,I believe, and went to see Elizabeth Taylor in person and manage to get front row seats for a price. We don't get to do that much more. This is better subject than talking about 100 plus weather everyday.Help! Good evening to all.BG.

Elvis did 2 benefit concerts in Jackson, MS after a tornado in 1975. Like I said, I was not particularly an EP fan (even though he was from MS), but the man was a real showman! Elvis was really big with my sister (older by 8 years) and her friends. Hard to believe he's been dead for 34 years. I came along in the rock band era around 1969-70. Huge rock fan. I credit Willie Nelson & "Blue Eyes Cryin' in the Rain" for making me a country fan again. Yep, lots of drugs at his concerts.

Goerge Straight is my most fav, Have seen him many times also Reba. Would not waste good money on drughead Willie. However Iwas looking for someone who can remember thier ealiest childhood memories.think about it. The humidity here today has to 90%. Not very nice out at all.Cloudy but no rain. A little fell last night. Would love to see 3 or 4 days of soft, soaking, steady rain. Praying all the time. OK has really been hit hard in the last month with 9 military deaths.Pray for their families.

Oh, I wanna play too. Concerts are so much fun! My first concert was 3 Dog Night back in the late 60s or early 70s. Fantastic! Also saw Elvis in July, 1975. Gotta say, I was not much of an EP fan, but he put on the most extraordinary show I've ever seen. Don, we have seen Willie Nelson about 6 times. My personal favorite...George Strait. Love him! Saw Tina Turner when she was still with Ike. Boy that was a memorable show! ZZ Top, Lionel Richie, Donna Summer, Pointer Sisters..etc, etc.
