    Hi everyone.

Crazy busy today, but wanted to give everyone an update on the storm and where we think it will be headed over the weekend:

As of the 11am advisory, the first landfall from hurricane Irene is forecast to be in North Carolina near Morehead City on Saturday from 6-10 am.  Keep in mind hurricane force winds upwards of 100 miles per hour and heavy rain will precede and follow landfall for hours.

Irene is then expected to hug the Mid- Atlantic coast.

Landfall in the New York area can be expected on western Long Island from 9a -1pm on Sunday.  Conditions will be deteriorating  from the early morning on Sunday before and after landfall across the Tri-State.  Irene should be a Cat 1 or very strong tropical storm as it passes near NYC.

Tropical storm conditions  will be experienced from Connecticut northward for the rest of the day Sunday.

    Impacts:

Damaging winds, moderate- severe inland and coastal flooding.  Some storm surge depending on the location.  6-10 inches of rain from Philly to NYC.   Trees and power lines will be down.

I’ll be headed home to Long Island to hunker down with my family this weekend.   We’ve got all our supplies ready when Irene pays a visit.  Be safe everyone!

Hi all. Not yet sure of the extent of the damage to the fields. Bosses are very stressed and right now the best thing to do is not pepper them with questions. They will let us know when they are ready. We got 6.75" at the farm (TOO MUCH!!). My sister has her power back. Hope Don checks in soon.

Good morning, hope all our "regular" bloggers are safe and sound and no damage to their homes, and that some we haven't heard from just aren't able to communicate because of power, we hope Don and Dawn and JD are safe and sound, Dawn, poor farmers always suffer and no one seems to think of them, PJ tells me not only heat to deal with for them in Texas now they want to charge them for bad air from dust.....Don we are thinking positive thoughts, hope its a better week for USA, AJ

Sharon, you need to watch your local news for coverage about small towns/cities. A national news organization can't possibly cover every city and town along the east coast that was hit by this hurricane. There are thousands of communities affected and Fox certainly doesn't have thousands of correspondents to cover them. Local news is the way to go.

I'd sure like more imformation on the smaller out linning cities... like endicott n.y. ya know just showing the big cities is NOT FAIR or BALANECED!

To all the regular bloggers: I'm longing for the day when the blog is nice and quiet with just the regular bloggers chatting away. Hurricanes always seem to bring out the complainers and whiners. I don't mind the legitimate comments but I sure wish the whiners would find another venue for their nastiness. I hope everyone has a good week. I hope we hear from Don soon. Dawn, I hope things aren't too bad up your way. Take care, all. Margie

Anyone who knew anything about hurricanes was aware that, if the eye of the storm went onshore in NC, it would diminish (it always does). And that, the waters along the coast in Virginia and north were too cold to cause the storm to increase. It was overblown because the NWS would rather have 100 million become complacent and die in future storms than give an accurate prediction now. You wouldn't have a Katrina story without NWS inspired complacency.

All I can say is that, with all the hype, it is no wonder that people along the gulf ignore the 'warnings'. If the NWS blows it out of proportion (as they did here), they simply say, "we still don't know everything about the weather". So people become complacent because 'this is just another overblown story'. Sure, 1 time out of 20 the warnings might come to fruition, but, because of the other 19 cries of 'wolf' many more people die than need to.

Somebody please tell Steve, that the location of the TAILPIPE has nothing to do with the depth of water that a vehicle can traverse. Thank you

Evening all! Dawn, I hate to hear about the damage to the crops. Farming is a difficult business during good times. I know Irene didn't help you guys. We were w/o power here for a week after Katrina. That was no fun! We were able to get a generator by the 3rd day. It was a small generator, but at least we could run a couple of things. First thing we wanted to see was Fox News to find out what was happening in the rest of the world. Shep never looked so good! HA! TTFN! Gwen :)

Hey Dawn, I don't think Don is on any kind of equipment where he needs electricity, but of course he would be a lot more comfortable with power to deal with the heat. I think he has a generator that he can use. Hopefully he won't be without power too long. I hope he checks in as soon as he can. I'm sorry about all the ignorant people calling this a non-event or rain storm. They're too ignorant to realize there is severe flooding damage. Those people make me angry! Take care up there! I used the uReport to share some pictures and videos that I witnessed in Massachusetts as Tropical Storm Irene moved in. I was wondering if anyone knew what the chances were that I would see my submissions on live television, and if so, when? Could u guys please comment back and give me what you think the chance is that I'll see this stuff on tv? Thanks.

Margie, Dont know the status of Don's health but you do know if he is ok enough to deal with a long term power outage? Many parts of CT will be without power for a week. More power outages this time than with Hurricane Gloria

Hey George, it's good to see you on the blog. I feel bad for all the people impacted by the storm. The floods can be as damaging as the winds & it seems that flooding will be the legacy of Irene. The fact that it has impacted millions of people makes this a huge event. I think I heard that Irene has impacted the most people of any storm. Since it hit almost all the major metropolitan areas on the east coast, I'm not surprised by that. I've been praying for Janice & I hope she's safe. Margie

I have been following Irene coverage on both Fox News and CNN all weekend. I'm glad Irene hasn't been worse, but it has been bad enough. I feel so sorry for those who have been affected by it, and especially for those who have lost loved ones. I pray Janice and her family are safe in their new home on Long Island.

Great advice from Naomi. Also, if you have to evacuate, PLEASE take your pets with you. The dogs that were abandoned and left to perish during Katrina broke my heart.
