  • Peek a Boo!

    Fox News |

Hi everyone!  Thought it was time for a “Cute Break!”  Here’s my little Teddy (with big brother Matthew in the background) giggling with Dada!

    Have a great day!

  • Margie's Rainbow

    Janice Dean | Meteorologist

    Hi everyone!

Hope you’re all doing well!  Margie sent me a beautiful picture of a rainbow she snapped the other day, and I thought I would share it.  Love our flag waving in the wind right above the it.  Gorgeous!

It’s been pretty gloomy here in the Northeast this past week,  with muggy temperatures and on and off rain showers.  Flood watches are posted for interior sections where the ground just can’t handle any more water.

A slight risk for severe weather across the Midatlantic today with mainly hail and damaging winds.  Colder air moves into the Midwest tomorrow dropping temperatures and bringing in some stronger winds while some showers will pop up along the Gulf Coast including a very thirsty state of Texas!   The West remains dry and a little warmer than usual this time of year.

Thankfully, the tropics have fizzled out somewhat with no immidiate threats to the U.S.   We’re thankful for that!

    Have a great day everyone!

  • More rain for the Northeast...Ophelia and Hillary

    Janice Dean | Meteorologist

    Good morning everyone!

Sorry for the absence lately…it was a busy week.  My whole family is under the “weather”   I was up with the little one all night.  I forgot how hard it is for babies when they have a cold (and for the parents too!)   I guess with the season change and Matthew back to school, it was inevitable that the germs would be flying around.  So far (knock wood) mom has been symptom free!

Hope you guys will be watching the Fox News/Google debates tonight!    You can post your questions to the candidates if you like!  Click here to find out how to get involved.

In weatherland, we’re expecting more rain here in the Northeast.   Ugh.    We have a  system across the Midwest with a cold front that stretches across the interior northeast back through the Gulf Coast that’s bringing unsettled weather along and ahead of the boundary.   Meanwhile, a front moving in from the Pacific will bring light rain across parts of the Northwest, otherwise dry and warm for much of the West.

Across the tropics, Tropical Storm Ophelia is about 1000 miles ESE of the Leeward Islands and moving west.  Ophelia is not expected to become a hurricane, and will weaken over the next few days due to strong winds in the upper levels of the atmosphere.    Across the Pacific, Tropical Storm Hilary will  likely become a hurricane today and possibly a major hurricane tomorrow as it hugs the coast of Mexico, bringing tropical storm conditions, heavy rains, and rough surf.

And you must check out this amazing video courtesy of NASA of the Aurora Australis taken by the International Space Station.   Fantastic!

Have a great day, everyone!  And Happy Birthday Margie!

  • Too early for fall?

    Janice Dean | Meteorologist

    Hi everyone!

Well, I think the big story in the Fox News Extreme Weather Center is the incredible dip in the temperatures!  We went from summer to late fall in just a matter of hours in some areas!  Much of the country is below “average” right now.

We have freeze advisories up for the Northeast:

I personally love this cooler air.   I just don’t enjoy the season that follows this one!  LOL!

In other weather news, we don’t have any widespread severe storms expected today, just some showers and thunderstorms in association with a couple of frontal boundaries off the southeast coast, over the Central U.S and across the Intermountain West.

Hurricane Maria is moving very quickly (over 40 mph!) towards southeast Newfoundland where they could get a brush with a pretty nasty storm later on today.

Have a great weekend, everyone!  I’m off on Monday to spend some time with the boys.   Talk to you Tuesday!

  • Here comes Fall!

    Janice Dean | Meteorologist

    Good morning everyone!

Hope you’re all doing well.   I have a little good news in the weather department these days!   No new storms in the tropics (Maria will stay away from the U.S. and Bermuda) and Dallas will see some (relatively) cooler weather in their forecast!  Yesterday was a record setting day in the Big D as they had their 70th day of 100 degree weather.   A cold front will drop those temperatures at least by 10 degrees in the next day or so:

Unfortunately, we don’t see any significant rain in Texas over the next week or so, which means the extraordinary drought continues.

Across the Upper Midwest, a MAJOR cool-down is on the way with the chance of record setting lows tonight!  Freeze warnings are up:

And take a look at these overnight lows:

I must admit, I am looking forward to some cooler temperatures.   Fall is my absolute favorite time of year.  I had a pumpkin spice latte this morning just to celebrate!

    Talk to y’all soon!
