  • More rain for the Northeast...Ophelia and Hillary

    Good morning everyone!

Sorry for the absence lately…it was a busy week.  My whole family is under the “weather”   I was up with the little one all night.  I forgot how hard it is for babies when they have a cold (and for the parents too!)   I guess with the season change and Matthew back to school, it was inevitable that the germs would be flying around.  So far (knock wood) mom has been symptom free!

Hope you guys will be watching the Fox News/Google debates tonight!    You can post your questions to the candidates if you like!  Click here to find out how to get involved.

In weatherland, we’re expecting more rain here in the Northeast.   Ugh.    We have a  system across the Midwest with a cold front that stretches across the interior northeast back through the Gulf Coast that’s bringing unsettled weather along and ahead of the boundary.   Meanwhile, a front moving in from the Pacific will bring light rain across parts of the Northwest, otherwise dry and warm for much of the West.

Across the tropics, Tropical Storm Ophelia is about 1000 miles ESE of the Leeward Islands and moving west.  Ophelia is not expected to become a hurricane, and will weaken over the next few days due to strong winds in the upper levels of the atmosphere.    Across the Pacific, Tropical Storm Hilary will  likely become a hurricane today and possibly a major hurricane tomorrow as it hugs the coast of Mexico, bringing tropical storm conditions, heavy rains, and rough surf.

And you must check out this amazing video courtesy of NASA of the Aurora Australis taken by the International Space Station.   Fantastic!

Have a great day, everyone!  And Happy Birthday Margie!

Hi all. I admit I am tired of the weather extremes we have been having for the past several seasons. The idea of "seasonal weather" seems to be fading into the past and a normal is upon us. It's been like summer here for the month of Sept here in New England.

Just learned something thanks to Google. The difference between scattered and isolated thunderstorms. We expect scattered today and isolated tomorrow. Isolated = under 30% chance and Scattered = 30 to 50% chance

Well, we just had our second storm of the day and it was way worse than the first one. We've gotten around 1.75 inches of rain from the two storms. Everything in Cumberland is on a hill & the one street I drive on that parallels my street turned into a river as water from both sides poured down the mountains. There must have been 6 inches of water in the street & it was gushing like crazy. I was afraid my car would stall out so I took a different street up to my street. What a mess! Margie

Well,Hi,everyone.Pretty weather here in Edmond,OK.Cool morns, and warm afternoons, and still no rain,But the weather is great, could be a little cooler, like 60 or 70's. I had a nice surprise last nite,my Granddaughter and her husband and little Logan, who is 3. They spent the nite with GG,and we had fun. A little dinner and some time talking and playing.Logan was so sweet. He was a little worried, because I only have one extra room,he would'nt have a place to sleep,we made a pallet and he loved it

Hi guys! Storms here today too. Actually we got a lot of much needed rain. Started before daylight and was pouring when I left for work at 7:30. Luckily our power never did go out, but I was afraid it would. Supposed to be a good bit cooler this weekend...highs in upper 70s. I have a family reunion on Saturday. I'm thinking the weather will be really great for that. we have the Harrison Family Reunion on the 1st Saturday of October each year. Should be fun! Y'all have a great day! :)

Where is everyone today? It's been way too quiet around here. PJ, I'm glad your temperatures are cooling off. We had a nasty thunderstorm this morning that knocked out power to the whole campus, as well as the hospital & other areas around Cumberland. The outage lasted about an hr. It's pretty dark in this library when the lights go out! It's getting dark again & I'm afraid the storm will hit right when I get off work. It should be fun! Take care, all. Margie

Afternoon all! Trying to get cranked for the week. It's been an interesting (and tiring) few days. Grandkids are fantastic, but I'll really be glad when their mom gets home this afternoon! I'm going to need that vacation in Cherokee when it gets here! Margie, glad your celebration went so well. I hear you on that food coma thing... I made 3 different desserts yesterday: blueberry crunch, brownies and apple pie. I think I may have overdone it a bit! Catch y'all later! Gwen :)

Hey Don, I never thought about that! I'll have to ask them about that. Hey to everyone else out there. I'm still trying to recover from my food coma from the weekend. I certainly enjoyed some great food over the weekend! Now it's time to exercise off all those extra calories. I hope everyone has a great week. Margie

Margie, did you ever tease your parents as to what they were doing on Christmas 50 years ago?

Hi folks, thanks for the birthday wishes. I had a great weekend & I'm trying to emerge from my food coma! My birthday dinner with my family was great but the restaurant had a problem with a number of people calling off for the day so they were really understaffed. Our meal took over 3 hours but it sure was good! I got the crab imperial which was delicious! I got a bonus dessert--I had a piece of baklava at the restaurant & took a piece of chocolate mousse cake home--yummy! Margie

Gwen, have a wonderful time in Cherokee I keep thinking last year this time I was there, I love that whole area of the Smokies and I was always told my greatgrandmother was Cherokee and when I was young people always asked if I was Indian as my round face and high cheek bones, I hope I was, enjoy, enjoy, I am with you I love back there this time of year...xoAJ

Blowing and raining here last night and today. Janice, our local Doppler radar station will be fully operational 9/30. It is at Copalis Beach and will cover from Cape Flattery to the Columbia River. I wish we had had it in 2007 when 100 mile an hour winds roared in here unannounced! Anyway, check out the new "goodie". Maybe we can send some of this rain down to Arizona and Texas. Usually it just trends more to the East. Sam
