  • Fall is St. Louis!

    Janice Dean | Meteorologist

    Hi everyone!

Another beautiful picture to post this morning.  It’s courtesy of John Dudgeon @brickhauser

He writes: Fall colors paint St. Louis City

Send me your pictures too!  @janicedeanfox

Raining here in NYC…again.  Looking forward to a nice fall weekend though!  Hurry up weekend!

  • Beautiful Fall Photos, and Weather-person stress?

    Janice Dean | Meteorologist

    Hi everyone!

A few things to cover today!

First up, some great Fall Pictures.  These ones come from our friend Margie as she toured through Garrett County, Maryland:

And these were snapped by my brother Craig in Toronto Parkland on Canadian Thanksgiving this past weekend!

You can send me your pictures via twitter at @janicedeanfox.

Yesterday I did an interview with Wendy Bounds from the Wall Street Journal about the stress meteorologists face when predicting the weather that affects thousands/millions of people.  Here’s the great article: – In Weather Forecasting, Expect High Pressure

And the link to the video can be found HERE

Let me know what you think.  I have to be honest – I think there’s way more pressure being a local meteorologist.  If you get the forecast wrong in your town or city, especially when there’s a big snowstorm/tropical storm/hurricane coming your way, the pressure is tremendous.  I feel lucky that I do National Weather because it’s a broader picture.  Don’t get me wrong, though.  When we have big snowstorms or hurricanes heading somewhere across the U.S, we take it very seriously, and try to give the best and most accurate information we can.

    Have a great day, everyone!

  • Today's Fall pic of the Day!

    Janice Dean | Meteorologist

    Hello everyone!

Hope you all had a great weekend.  We’re back to summer weather here in the Northeast!  We went to a farmers market yesterday and left early to escape the heat!   I’ll be glad when we’re back to more seasonal temperatures later this week…

I have another beautiful picture sent to me via twitter (@janicedeanfox) from Mark Beck.  He writes:  Fall colors in Central Utah taken above Fairview Lakes on October 4, 2011

Send me your pics if you want!  Love posting them.

In other news,  we’ve decided what Matt and Teddy will be for Halloween.  Not surprising, Matthew will be a fireman, and Ted is going to be a little pumpkin.  Stay tuned for Cute Breaks.  :)

    Have a great day everyone!

    Good morning everyone!

Well, I have to start off this post by singing Happy 15th Birthday to Fox News!  “Happy Birthday to you…Happy Birthday to you….” Thankfully you can’t hear me!  HA!

They’ve put some pretty fantastic promos together to celebrate!

And handsome Bill Hemmer will host a birthday celebration talking to all our great anchors and reporters tonight at 10pm eastern time.

I know you’ve heard me say this before, but this place really is a second family to me.  I was hired in January of 2004, and  feel so fortunate to work for this company.  It truly is the best job I’ve ever had, and it’s because I work with people I truly enjoy being around.  It also helps to have a boss who really does care about his employees.  We all genuinely like one another, and I think that comes across our air.

Since I’ve been at Fox  I’ve gotten engaged, married and had a family.  I think the fact that I love my job has certainly made me a better wife, mom and weather forecaster!

And thanks to all of you who make my job a lot more fun, and a pleasure to come to work!  You deserve a piece of the cake too!

Have a great weekend, everyone!  Cheers to another 15 years!

  • Fall Beauty in Linville, NC!

    Janice Dean | Meteorologist

    Hi everyone!

Look at this beautiful picture I received from @GrandfatherMtn on twitter!  This is from Grandfather Mountain in Linville, NC.   They are near peak above 4,000 feet!

You guys can tweet me your pictures too @janicedeanfox

    In other weather news,

The first significant storm across the West will bring some impressive snow totals (2 feet!) for the mountains of Utah and Colorado above 8,000 feet.   This winter storm moves into the Central U.S tomorrow bringing the threat for severe weather including tornadoes and high winds that could spark wildfires.

In tropical news, we’re watching Florida very carefully as the potential for something tropical could impact the region and/or the southeast starting this weekend and into next week…computer models are hinting that a low pressure system could form over the Gulf of Mexico, the Bahamas or Northwestern Caribbean.  Still to early to figure how strong the storm will be, and its impacts, but stay tuned!  Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Phillipe remains over the central Atlantic.  Phillipe could become a hurricane briefly, but will be no threat to land.

Hope you guys are doing well!  Keep sending those pictures!  We’ve got a beautiful stretch of weather here in New York.  I think I may have to take a stroll at lunchtime!
