  • Deadly storm hit the south

A terrible day of severe weather yesterday with 25 reported tornadoes stretching across the Gulf Coast and into the Southeast.  Unfortunately this outbreak turned deadly with at least 6 people dead and dozens injured.

Don sent this photo in from Jones County MS:

    He writes:

I have a photo on my phone that shows part of a mobile home that was destroyed with 8 people inside. I have attached the photo in the space below. The mobile home is the debris to the left of the frame home. There were two mobile homes that were close together that were destroyed.

There were two confirmed tornadoes that hit Jones County yesterday.  One was an EF1 with winds of 95 mph.  The other was an EF2 with winds of 130 mph, carving a path of destruction 12 miles wide, and injuring 15 people.

Thankfully, the  worst of the weather is now over, but we’re still  seeing  some rain and snow showers along the east coast as the cold front finally moves off shore. Lake effect snow will crank up, and much cooler air spreads across the region.

The West gears up for another round of snow wind and rain from the Northwest through the Rockies and Northern High Plains.

I’m glad things have quieted down a little bit.  If you’ve got any pictures you want to send,  please feel free!  I’m at @janicedeanfox on twitter!

    Have a great day everyone!

Little trick I will pass on. After two days of rain, we had 28 here this morning and the car door locked were frozen. I keep lock deicer in my winter coat pocket. One spray and it unlocked. keep deicer in your coat pocket.
