    Terrible tornadoes across the South

    Hi everyone.

    A terrible night across the South.   24 reports of tornadoes in the last 24 hours across  Arkansas, Tennessee, Alabama and Mississippi.

    The National Weather Service says an EF2 caused extensive damage in Fordyce AR, with winds of up to 135 mph. 

    As you can see, it is very rare to see  this many tornadoes in the month of January. We are way above average in terms of numbers and the strength of tornadoes we’ve seen this month. Still waiting on confirmation of the tornadoes that tore through Alabama this afternoon.Fortunately, the risk of severe weather has diminished this afternoon, and all the tornado watches have been lifted.

    I’m off tomorrow to spend the day birthday boy.  I can’t believe Matthew is  three already.   Seems like yesterday I was taking him home from hospital.

JD, your coverage of the nasty weather in the South has been phenominal. Keep up the good work, but how sad to see the devastation those people have experienced. We pray they will all overcome their hardships. Birthday greetings to the big boy Matthew who is now 3 years old. Enjoy every aspect of their lives, Janice, before you know it, they will be asking for the keys to the car! :) Audrey

Dixie, sorry also for your weather, but this blog is for friends who love JD and it gets my dander up to anyone who says things like that about one of the most compassionate caring women in TV and I know.....so please don't even bother coming here if that is your goal and just change channels, on the other hand if you care for others in like mind you are most welcome here and we hope your weather improves..AJ

Wild weather here Sunday night, but no heavy damage in our immediate area. Did have hail and 2" of rain in some spots,and the wind was rough at times. However, no tornado touchdowns. My heart goes out to those with damage and loss, but hate to see criticism from those with little/no clue. JD is beyond caring and compassionate of those who have weather-related trauma. That's one of the reasons we love her so. Happy Birthday, Matthew! Enjoy your day with your little man, JD. Gwen :)

Don, we're supposed to get up to around 48 today. It doesn't have far to go to reach that. It was really weird overnight. The temperature went up 12 degrees in a 3 1/2 hour period in the middle of the night. It went from 32 to 44. The sun is trying to break through the clouds so I think it will be a nice day. We experienced some of the thunderstorm activity and lightning up here in South Carolina..it fried our heat pump. Too bad we had USAA. 250.. a month buys a rebuilt Five year old Trane or no deal at all. We're shopping for better coverage. My wife and I deserve better coverage after ten years.

Hey AJ, I wish it was in the 70's here. We did get into the low 40's today but we got about a half inch of rain with that. It's supposed to get into the mid 40's the rest of the week. We've had such an easy winter so far, I hate to think what February might bring! Enjoy those nice temperatures! Margie

Dixie, I'm sorry for all you are going through with the tornadoes but you are way out of line coming here to criticize Janice. She's one of the most compassionate people on TV & if you watch her weather hits during the day, you would know that. She truly cares when people suffer from weather-related events & you can see that when you watch her. Janice has shared about her family over the years with those of us who are regular bloggers & we are like one big family on this blog. My prayers go out to you and all those impacted by the tornadoes. I’m sure Janice would say the same thing. Margie

Gee thanks for the lack of coverage for the pain and suffering here in Alabama. While it's great that your childs is having a Birthday, to include that in a story about what is happening here is beyond insensitive! I live here and have friends in one of the areas hit. How about a little compassion for those that have lost everything?!

Happy Birthday Dearrrr Matthew.....have a wonderful day with Mom and Dad and your little bro..3 how can that be JD, oh my gosh.......why is time going so quickly these days....pouring rain all day today and 54, rest of the week dy and 70's but we will glady take that compared to rest of USA, I remember a long time ago in St. Louis the worst tornado first part of February...crazy weather patterns in these times..AJ

Happy Birthday Matthew! Janice, it's hard to believe he's 3 already! They grow up way too fast. Have fun with your little men tomorrow! This weather has been really wacky this winter. Tornadoes in January just don't seem right. Hopefully things will settle down all over the country for a while. The sun is trying to come out here after some really cold rain this morning. Some areas did get some freezing rain but nothing around here. Take care, all! Margie
