  • Another day of heat for Northeast, Florida watches the tropics

    Hi everyone

Yup, it’s hot outside.  Across the Northeast and Midatlantic this will be the worst day of the heat, and then temperatures will start to come down tomorrow and through the weekend.  We will definitely set some daily records today.

Excessive Heat Warnings and Heat Advisories remain in effect through this evening as temps in the 90s combine with humidity for heat indices over 100 degrees.

A cold front that will eventually bring us some needed relief could spark a few hail and wind reports today across the eastern Great Lakes and Ohio Valley.

And while  temperatures across Colorado are cooler today, hotter conditions and dry air are expected tomorrow though the weekend, which will not help firefighters who are fighting to save homes and business from ongoing wildfires.

And we are closely monitoring an area of disturbed weather over the northwestern Caribbean and southern Gulf of Mexico.  Heavy rain will be ongoing over the next few days for  South Florida, Cuba and the Bahamas.  Environmental conditions will become more favorable for development over the weekend, so we’ll be monitoring this region for potential tropical development.

Hope you’re all doing well.  It’s been busy here in the weather center lately.  But it’s good to be busy!   And Thank Goodness for air conditioning!!

AJ, my supervisor gave me a small electric fan that I have pointed at my desk. It feels good! I've been sticking my head in the freezer every time I get ice out! It is another humid day today. I don't think it's supposed to be quite as hot as the last couple days so we'll see. The humidity is bad, though. I heard DC not only set a record high yesterday (99) but set a record for the highest low temperature. It only got down to 78 for a low. Stay cool everyone! Margie

Margie, when I first started getting hot flashes 18 years ago (oh my)I use to buy all those $1.00 little battery fans from Dollar Tree and Walmart, they are wonderful, also, sticking your head in the freezer a few seconds helps and drinking ice water too!! Sorry for the heat wave back there you guys, stay cool best way you can..AJ

Hey everyone! It's coming up on noon & we're at 86 with a heat index of 93. What fun! I hope everyone is staying cool. At least it's comfortable inside so I think that's where I'll stay! I'm glad the first hurricane of the season is a "tame" one & won't affect land. The fisherman will have to watch out. Have a great afternoon, all! Margie

Sounds like this would be a good time for Mississippi to run backwards again.
