  • Happy 4th of July eve!

    Good afternoon everyone!

It’s been busy, so apologies for not posting yesterday.  I even did weather for Sky News!  (something that doesn’t happen too often, but the extreme weather we’ve been having across the U.S. is certainly making the rest of the globe pay close attention!

So, many of you are dealing with the record breaking heat, and of course a lot of us know family or friends that are suffering without power where severe storms tore through over the weekend.  Our friend Don sent this picture his daughter took of storm clouds in Richmond looking towards Mechanicsville:

While temperatures are not at the extreme levels much of the Plains and East experienced over the weekend, heat advisories remain widespread from the Northern Plains through the Ohio Valley:

High humidity will make for heat indices above 100 degrees.  The heat will hold onto the Midwest and Northern Plains though Friday.

A few areas will see the potential for a few severe storms today and tonight:  Eastern Montana, western North Dakota, and the Great Lakes may see primarily the risk for damaging winds and large hail.

Looking at Wednesday’s July 4th forecast – much of the country remains hot and humid, with the added potential for a few severe storms in the Upper Midwest and isolated strong storms into the Northeast.

I’m working tomorrow afternoon, so I’ll check in and say Hi to y’all!

Hope everyone has a great 4th of July!

Hi, guys! Happy 4th of July! I could have sworn I posted something yesterday on this thread, but I don't see it. So, here's hoping all are well on this 4th. We have had boiled shrimp, grilled deer burgers and fried catfish fillets this week. We're camping in a group of 6 campers. It's kind of different from what we normally do, but it's been fun so far. We'll be in the group camp through Friday. Y'all have a great rest of the day. I'm off to watch the fireworks display! TTFN! Gwen :)

Awesome fireworks display in Cumberland tonight. However, it is of the thunderstorm variety--something we don't need around here. I can't believe that there are stupid people out setting off fireworks when there is so much lightning around. I was out on my front porch & sirens were blaring. The good thing is that there was hardly any wind in my area. It looks a lot worse just east of town. However, there is an overabundance of dopey people! Margie

52, overcast and feels muggy!? How's it feel muggy at 52 degrees? Usually we have lots of fireworks going off around our neighborhood but very few this year. Someone across the river, up Bear Gulch road must have some huge ones though as usual. His make the commercial exhibits sound tame!!

Hey AJ, we got 2 more thunderstorms yesterday evening/this morning but nothing like last Friday. Between the 2 storms we got a little less than 4/10" of rain & the high wind gust was 32 mph. Last Friday's storm blew the room off the Union Rescue Mission that's only about a mile away from my house. It rained really hard yesterday evening & I heard thunder around 4:30 this morning. I couldn't tell how hard it rained since my air conditioner was running. Have a great 4th, everyone! Margie

Hi J.D. and blogger friends: It's HOT again today. Suppose to get some relief by the end of the week. That would be nice. I am flying to Atlanta for the week-end. My granddaughter, Carrie, is getting married, and what a nice time of celebration to have family together to enjoy this special event. Stay cool all, and J.D. enjoy your 4th with family even though you have to give us the weather in the afternoon. Thanks for "helping out." Audrey

About 16,000 Dominion Virginia Power customers in the Richmond/Tri-Cities service area remained without electricity this morning as the utility continued to clean up in the aftermath of powerful weekend storms. At about 9:15 a.m., the utility reported 86,000 customers without power in Northern Virginia and another approximate 34,000 in the Shenandoah Valley and western Piedmont. Statewide, the utility had about 138,000 without power, according to its website. Across the state, about 21,330 electric-cooperative members remained without power, including about 5,000 for the Rappahannock Electric Cooperative, 2,500 in the Shenadoah Valley co-op and 2,800 in Central Virginia.
