  • Heat continues this weekend...

Hi everyone!   Up early for Fox and Friends First today and Friday.  There will be a nap in my future since my neighborhood was popping fireworks until close to midnight.   A little tough when you have a 2:30 wake-up call!  Thank goodness my boys slept through the whole thing!

Extreme heat will once again be the lead story across much of the nation with temperatures surpassing 100 degrees in many big cities, and with the humidity factored in, it will feel anywhere from 105 to 118 degrees.

Power is still out for hundreds of thousands of people from Illinois through the Midatlantic so this is not welcome news, however there is some relief on the way as we head into next week as high pressure will begin to break down and it will feel much more “seasonal”. Thunderstorms could crop up across the Northern Plains through the Great Lakes and into the Ohio Valley.  The main threat will be large hail and damaging winds but there is the risk for isolated tornadoes.

And across the west, rain will be welcome news across the four corners states.  There is a risk for lightning and winds as well as flash flooding over the burn areas, but ultimately this is great news for moisture starved regions.

I had to work yesterday afternoon, but my boys had a great time in the backyard.  My husband sent me this picture which I thought I would share:

Thank Goodness for kiddie pools! :)

Have a great day everyone!  Keep cool!

The green turtles come out of the pond and a couple get run over a year. The snapping turtles stay in the water. The female snapping turtle will come onto the edge to lay her eggs but then go right back in. Every so often I catch one with the fishing pole. I cut the string right away.

Don, I think stepping on frog is a lot grosser than walking into a spider web--yuck! I ran over a turtle in my car a couple years ago and that was a highly unpleasant sound. Stepping in goose droppings sounds unpleasant also, so I guess it's a good idea to look down--you too, Gwen! Hopefully you won't encounter any more spider webs. Our weather is beautiful today. It's only 81 with a heat index of 82 and a very pleasant breeze to go along with that. I'm happy! Take care, everyone. Margie

I have no choice Gwen, I can only leave via the breezeway. One time as I stepped out the door I stepped on and flattened out a frog. I felt really bad but I did laugh

Good Monday Morning, guys! It's supposed to be cooler today, but the humidity will still make things muggy around here. Don, I watched a gaggle of geese this morning at the lake. I'll try not to get too near the area where they're leaving "presents" and making their "presence" known. HA! Hope everyone is going to have a cooler week. Y'all have a good day! Gwen :)

Margie, this time of the year the Geese are molting and because they can't fly they come out of the pond and walk through the breesway and leave presents there. It gets cleaned once a week. Walking, you look down so as not to step in anything. That's how I missed seeing the web

Don, I hate when that happens! I've done that in my basement and it is highly unpleasant! I hate spiders, too, so it makes it even more gross. Margie

About an hour ago I had a GROSS experience. Heading to my car to go to the dog park I walked face first into a spider web. It's hard to get off and get out of your hair.

How is it that the temperatures show for the shole US except Florida. Either someone is standing in front of Florida or there is some message there, but you would be surprised how difficult it is to see the posted temperature for Florida. Just look at your map above - yemperature for Florida missing. Thanks for rectifying this. Carolyn Reichel

Hey to all the regular bloggers out there. PJ, I agree with you. I never understand why people expect a major international news channel to cover their local weather. Cumberland is never mentioned but you don't hear me complaining! I hope everyone is staying cool in the heat. We got up to 103 with a heat index of 110 today. That is nasty! Monday's high is supposed to be 82. That will actually feel cold after today's heat! Enjoy the rest of your weekend, everyone. Margie

Bill, since Janice isn't working today, you're at the wrong place for your complaint. I saw a weather report on FNC not too long ago that commented on the heat in the other parts of the country so I don't know what you saw that you didn't like. If you want more coverage for your area, watch the Weather Channel where they have weather stuff all day. FNC covers a lot more stuff than just the weather so it's impossible to cover every place.

Sorta disappointed with UR newscast on fox news. I live in the heart of the midwest where we are now into 11 days off 100 degree plus temps. No rain since june 16. I understand when DC gets 100..Wow big news. The metro-plex hits 95...Wow big news. We are the heartland where we suffer just as bad or for that matter far worse. We are the breadbasket of america and we get a whole whooping 15 seconds and U have a reporter in the shade reporting on a mere 103 degree day.You can this fair and balance

Expecting a heat index today and tomorrow of 110. By Tuesday the high will be 83. Just learned this morning there were so many polls down the power co. in Va ran out of them and didn't get a new shipment until Wednedsay night. In this area they expect to have power restored to everyone by tomorrow. Nort and Western Va, next week.

Hey folks. We got up to 100 today. At 10 pm it's 84 with a heat index of 90. That stinks! I just took my trash out and the humidity sucked the life out of me as soon as I walked out the door. I'm thankful for air conditioning! I'm not looking forward to tomorrow when the actual temperature is supposed to reach 103--yucky! Have a great weekend, everyone. Margie

John and Ed, I have an idea what might be causing your problem. I checked the site with two different browsers, Windows 7 and Google Chrome and it works it both. I'm wondering if your popup blocker is set to strick. Try adding that address to the list where you will allow popups.

Hey Don, I can't find any forecast about our heat index but the actual temperature is supposed to get up to 103 tomorrow. At least the chance of snow is 0%--HA! A little snow would feel good about now, actually. I have to work at the art gallery tomorrow so I'm not looking forward to having to go anywhere in that heat. I tried to find someone to work for me but had no volunteers. At least I can stay inside today after I go for my treatment this morning. Stay cool, everyone! Margie
