    TROPICS PERKING UP?

    Hi everyone!

    First off, thoughts and prayers to all of you with health issues, or  have family who are struggling with illness.      It’s been a tough summer for some.  I’m just hoping for easier days ahead for all of us.

    Secondly, I know we’ve had some comments lately about weather “coverage” on the maps we use.   The maps I use on the air are fairly generic, as I don’t do local weather.  When we do a forecast on FNC, it usually focuses in on the nation’s most extreme weather.  For example, the four corners are under flash flood watch today because of heavy rain.  The Central/Southern Plains continue to feel record breaking heat and drought this week,  and we’re watching an area of low pressure that could develop into a tropical storm this weekend.  These are the stories I covered in my last report on Happening Now.  These are broad stories that happen to cover a large chunk of the population.  If you’d like local weather, we don’t provide that on Fox News Channel, but we do have local affiliates across the U.S who do, and they can zoom in on specific towns/cities.   I hope that clears things up for any new visitors we have to the blog.  And, hey, we love having new people chime in on the blog any time — all we ask is that you are considerate and kind. 

    As for weather, I mentioned the big stories we are covering today already.  Take a look at the heat advisories that continue to cover over a dozen states today:

    The worst of the heat remains over the central and southern plains with more records being threatened today:

    And we are watching the tropics over the next few days as an area of low pressure could develop any time out in the Atlantic. 

    The next named storm is Ernesto, and here’s a look at the latest computer models showing the path of the potential storm in the next few days:

    I’m going to be taking the rest of the week off to enjoy a long weekend with my family.  My mom is in town for her birthday, so we’re going to spend some time with her before she heads home.

Don, I think my favorite Marvin Hamlisch work was the soundtrack to the movie Ice Castles. "Through the Eyes of Love" is one of my favorite Melissa Manchester songs. There are so many of his songs that I like and still listen to every once in a while. He was special. Hey to everyone else out there. I hope everyone is having a great day. Ha! Dolores, I left out the grilled pork tenderloin, the sliced tomatoes fresh from the garden and the sweet tea. It was a meal fit for a king...or a bunch of Southerners! I wish y'all could have been there. Butterbean soup? I've never had that, Don. Will put that one on my bucket list. :)

Hi guys! Busy weekend...we celebrated our twins' 25st birthday. Cake and ice cream, of course, but had fresh butterbeans, fried okra, creamed corn, potato salad and cornbread. Quite a feast! Will be eating lighter all week for sure. Also took 2 of my grandkids to a birthday party, but passed on the cupcakes and ice cream. Very rainy afternoon in MySouth...much needed and appreciated. Taking our camper back out to the lake tomorrow for another 2-week stay. Love it! Catch y'all later! :)

Hello bloggers. Went to the cottage for the week-end..rather hot, but came home to lots of branches and debris in our yard after a storm hit the area on Sat. One large branch fell on our roof, but the good neighbor we have took it off and already had it cut up for pick-up. Hope you had a restful week-end. We got our "fill" of darling great grandchildren while at the cottage. They are so sweet. Have a great day all. We're enjoying a beautiful day of sunshine and temps in the 70's. Audrey

Hi to all bloggers.Temps have gone down to 100.Last night 88 at 10 pm.But still no rain in sight.We are so dry.And fires burning acres and acres and dozens of homes,It is really sad for those people.No deaths.Firemen treated for heat related problems.I just heard on the radio,that there was one death so far.We need to keep all in our prayers.Hope everyone is staying cool and safe.Dolores

Hey AJ! That cartoon is great! We had another humid day today with a little more rain. It cooled things down a little but it's still humid like it was yesterday. I stayed inside all day today and took it easy. I got plenty of rest this weekend and that's exactly what I needed. Hey to everyone else. The blog has been quiet this weekend. Hi Everyone, hope you have all had a nice weekend, I never say much about our weather as it is even good when it's bad, and feel bad for your high temps and humidity and storms..have to share a cute cartoon I saw in the editorial of our paper it was a picture of the Lord's Supper and they were serving Chick Fil A..haha hope the coming week will be great for all of our regular bloggers and JD hope you had a wonderful birthday celebration. Hey folks, it's been quiet on the blog today. Dolores, I'm glad you "cooled down" today! We had made it into the low 90's when a pretty hefty thunderstorm cooled things down into the upper 70's. It's really humid, however. I hope everyone enjoys the rest of the weekend! Margie

Hey,to all this Sat pm.Our temps went ALL the down to 107 today.The high at 10:15 last night was 98.Come on 30 degrees! I went to my local CFL this noon and found a waiting line at the drive-thru.Got my really good sandwich in 30 mins. No KISS-INS at that location.Hope everyone is staying cool and safe.Dolores

PJ, it is only 101 down here a few hours south of you. Have a great time with the granddog this weekend, AJ. Margie, get some rest and enjoy the weekend. Not a whole lot going on down here this weekend. Watching the grandson tomorrow night and trying not to get overheated while doing a little yard work. Hope all the bloggers have a great weekend. I just heard on the news Mary Kay is 43 and they are having a big party in Dallas. I have never used there products , but have seen the pink Cadillac. Hope all have a great weekend and stay cool.

Hey folks, I guess we all got tired out from all the blogging yesterday because it's been quiet on the blog today. Although, I shouldn't say that because I thought the same thing yesterday & we know what happened with that! It's hot & humid in Cumberland. The temperature is only 86 but it feels like 92. I'm glad the weekend is almost here. I need to get some sleep. Staying up late to watch the Olympics is hard on the body! I can sleep in tomorrow. Have a great weekend, everyone! Margie

Wow...I get busy and don't check the blog, and all heck breaks loose! Looks like y'all took care of it, though. One thing we have always maintained on this blog is respect for one another. Namecalling is not appreciated. BTW, you don't have to support a business you don't agree with. I stopped buying Levi products years ago when they withdrew their support of the Boy Scouts. And I've never eaten Ben & Jerry's ice cream. That's my choice! Plus, I'm a firm believer in Freedom of Speech...
