    TROPICS PERKING UP?

    Hi everyone!

    First off, thoughts and prayers to all of you with health issues, or  have family who are struggling with illness.      It’s been a tough summer for some.  I’m just hoping for easier days ahead for all of us.

    Secondly, I know we’ve had some comments lately about weather “coverage” on the maps we use.   The maps I use on the air are fairly generic, as I don’t do local weather.  When we do a forecast on FNC, it usually focuses in on the nation’s most extreme weather.  For example, the four corners are under flash flood watch today because of heavy rain.  The Central/Southern Plains continue to feel record breaking heat and drought this week,  and we’re watching an area of low pressure that could develop into a tropical storm this weekend.  These are the stories I covered in my last report on Happening Now.  These are broad stories that happen to cover a large chunk of the population.  If you’d like local weather, we don’t provide that on Fox News Channel, but we do have local affiliates across the U.S who do, and they can zoom in on specific towns/cities.   I hope that clears things up for any new visitors we have to the blog.  And, hey, we love having new people chime in on the blog any time — all we ask is that you are considerate and kind. 

    As for weather, I mentioned the big stories we are covering today already.  Take a look at the heat advisories that continue to cover over a dozen states today:

    The worst of the heat remains over the central and southern plains with more records being threatened today:

    And we are watching the tropics over the next few days as an area of low pressure could develop any time out in the Atlantic. 

    The next named storm is Ernesto, and here’s a look at the latest computer models showing the path of the potential storm in the next few days:

    I’m going to be taking the rest of the week off to enjoy a long weekend with my family.  My mom is in town for her birthday, so we’re going to spend some time with her before she heads home.

Last month was Richmond's second-warmest July on record, the National Weather Service said. Records go back to the late 1800s. July's average temperature was 82.7 degrees. The normal July average is 79.3 degrees. The hottest July on record came in 2010. It averaged a slightly higher 82.8 degrees. July followed the warmest spring -- March through May -- on record. And that followed the fourth-warmest winter -- December through February -- on record. Last month featured 20 days that hit 90 degrees or higher. The average is 16 days. Also, it was the third consecutive July with 20 or more days that hit 90 or higher. That has happened during one other stretch, in 1993, 1994 and 1995.

Hey JB and Dolores, I guess I'm a racist from the North, then! I think someone needs to read the mission of their organization because they are behaving contrary to what they're supposed to be all about. Oh yeah, hypocrite isn't in their dictionary! We all will be judged by God and there are some people who will get a big surprise and then they'll realize Christians had it right all along. God bless all my blogging buddies. We know the Truth! Hope all are doing well today. It is me, that racist, homophobe from the South! I wonder why those on the left can call us racist homophobes and then lecture us on being civil. What has this great Country come to,when a certain minority and th press wants to openly destroy a privately owned business of many years?Literaly take away his livelyhood? I think Ms McGhee called me a racist and that offends me,but that is her right,just as I have the right to support Mr, Cathy.If I have offended here getting political,sorry,but it just me sooo mad that the ones who want tolerance,cannot graciously be the same toward others who have a differnt view.113 here in OK today.

I'm just sayin' just got home from Chick Fil A was in line from 2:15 till at the counter at 4, everyone happy and jolly and kind and still the same line when we left and drive through the whole time and still, old folks, young folks, families..The CFA passed out water and tokens for free breakfasts..great day!AJ

I was so glad to see all over the Country how much support there was for Chick-Fil-Let!!!! Edmond,OK stores had lines that went into the street.Some people parked blocks away and walked and waited in line.I get my weather from local CBS station,I do not get what all the fuss is about!!!! JD's weather is fine,so let it go for heaven's sake.Temp here in OK the last few days have been 109,110,112,today again 112.Stay cool and safe out there,Dolores

Have good family time Janice. Richmond's NBC12 does the local weather and news and they also do it for the local Fox station. The local Fox TV station have no news or weather staff. NBC does it for them. I do listen to the local Fox radio early in the morning and many times they even quote Janice when they give the weather.

Happy Birthday to your Mom JD and so happy you are taking quality family time to celebrate that "special" day, have fun, fun, fun and of course...cake and ice cream too!! In San Diego they only give mostly our weather so I go to Weather.com for my fellow blogger cities..I only complain at the grumps..Y'all have a nice day and Chick Fil A at 2..trying to avoid the crowd you had Gwen, but yet crowds are good today..thoughts for Don and Margie too.AJ

Just finished my Chick-fil-A lunch. YUMMY! It was well worth the 1 hr and 15 minute wait in line. We went yesterday and just may go back tomorrow as well. To quote a favorite local saying: "It looked like a kicked over ant hill there!" Hope all have a wonderful Wednesday! JD, Enjoy your days off and "Happy Birthday, JD's Mom!" Hi J.D. Birthday blessings to your Mom. I hope all of you have a wonderful time together celebrating "her special day." Enjoy your time off, and the rest of us will have to "rely" on our local Fox station for the daily weather. We can do it! Our weather today (near Chicago) is beautiful. Hey Janice, I hope you have a fun long weekend with your mom & your family! We'll miss you. You shouldn't have to explain how you do the weather. Anyone with common sense should know that a national weather report isn't going to provide local weather conditions. Heck, when I watch my "local" news out of DC, the meteorologist very often stands in front of Cumberland, but I don't throw a temper tantrum! You do a great job with the weather. Thank you! Margie
