    Latest on Isaac

    Hi everyone

    Still keeping a close eye on Isaac– and now we have a new Depression in the Atlantic that will likely become Joyce!  Unlike Isaac, we won’t have to worry about Joyce as it appears this system won’t get close to the U.S in the days ahead.

    So here’s the latest on Isaac…

    Starting to get a little more organized, and this is a big storm!  Winds/rain extending over 200 miles from the “core” of this storm.

    Here’s the path as of the 11am advisory (the new track comes out at 5pm).  All of the areas inside the “cone” need to pay very close attention to the upcoming forecasts from the NHC.

    And one of our reliable computer forecast models is showing a too close for comfort scenario for the West Coast of Florida heading into next week.  Waters are incredibly warm in the Gulf, and if winds are light, it won’t take much to strengthen this storm.

    Even if we don’t have a direct landfall,  winds, heavy rain (possible flooding) and the risk of tornadoes will accompany a storm like this…

    And with the RNC next week, organizers are keeping close tabs on Isaac’s progress.  Tampa is the number one most vulnerable city in terms of flooding and storm surge from a landfalling hurricane:

Hi everyone Just an update on Isaac here in Tampa we are being hit with heavy rain we are hopping it doesn't get any worst, my family is traveling on Tuesday and Wednesday. Stay safe everyone

You are AFRAID, did I hear that right AFRAID of the westward shift in Isaac. For those of us living in the Panama City, Destin area then a hurricane is all right with you? New Orleans has had 7 years and billions of dollars to fix their levies. Citizens of New Orleans are not the only people living of the Gulf coast.

Hi to all bloggers.Had a wonderful lunch with "old" freinds at Longhorn.Very good.So muchh fun annnd very relaxing.Temps are in the 80's and low 90's.Had rain this morning and it is raining some right now.Depending on Isaack,could get more rain,which we need.Hope everyone is having a good evening. For anyone hungry for a little more info, here's a good site with a smorgasbord of information (that updates automatically) on active tropical storms (in this case, Isaac and Joyce): http://spaghettimodels.com/ (so named for the computer models used to help forecast track projectories). In other news, alternatively wet and dry in northern Arizona. A fair few are complaining, but I don't mind the wet monsoon at all!

Right now in New Hampshire it's mid-80s and clear. I love summer! Sometimes the strong hurricanes work their way all the way up here, and although they're only tropical depressions by then, I still hate them, so hoping this one fizzles over Cuba or something.

JD, watching you closely. Looks like Isaac's path may come for a visit across my neck of the woods. He could be especially dangerous after he gets into the warm Gulf. Hope the convention isn't a washout...may not be with a Cat 1. It could make life a little more miserable for protesters...all-in-all, not a bad thing. Lovely day in MySouth...90 w/low humidity. So rare for August! I spent 2 hours in the dentist's chair today. I cannot feel the right side of my face. :( TTFN! Gwen

Has anyone considered the idea that this storm/hurricane could work in favor of the RNC? The only demonstrators who will be out there will be hardcore and need close watching. The others are there for other stupid reasons. I hope the wind blows them into the next block.

Great, now we have another know-it-all on the blog. I guess all the real hurricane experts are wrong then. This is the kind of ignorance that gets people killed in hurricanes.
