  • Latest on Isaac

    Hi everyone

Still keeping a close eye on Isaac– and now we have a new Depression in the Atlantic that will likely become Joyce!  Unlike Isaac, we won’t have to worry about Joyce as it appears this system won’t get close to the U.S in the days ahead.

So here’s the latest on Isaac…

Starting to get a little more organized, and this is a big storm!  Winds/rain extending over 200 miles from the “core” of this storm.

Here’s the path as of the 11am advisory (the new track comes out at 5pm).  All of the areas inside the “cone” need to pay very close attention to the upcoming forecasts from the NHC.

And one of our reliable computer forecast models is showing a too close for comfort scenario for the West Coast of Florida heading into next week.  Waters are incredibly warm in the Gulf, and if winds are light, it won’t take much to strengthen this storm.

Even if we don’t have a direct landfall,  winds, heavy rain (possible flooding) and the risk of tornadoes will accompany a storm like this…

And with the RNC next week, organizers are keeping close tabs on Isaac’s progress.  Tampa is the number one most vulnerable city in terms of flooding and storm surge from a landfalling hurricane:

That’s all for now!  An update tomorrow, and updates by the minute on twitter! (@janicedeanfox)

This story is completely bogus, the Tropical storm named Isaac is moving almost due west. At present there is absolutely no chance of it hitting the US mainland given the steering winds.

Hi bloggers and JD. Busy day...payday you know. I'll be following the Isaac updates closely. Kinda weird as Isaac was the name of both my grandfather and great-grandfather. Better watch out, this one may do some damage! Be wise and prepare in advance. Margie, I did hear about the train derailment, but didn't know about the loss of life. Sad news. We had just watched the runaway train movie "Unstoppable" with Dentzel Washington a couple of nights ago. Pretty good movie! Gotta run! :)

Margie, the train that derailed and killed the girls also cut fiber optics cables that even went to Gitmo in Cuba. Janice I saw that you showed the storm will go over Martinique. Having spent much time all on that island there aren't many places that I would feel safe in any hurricane there.

Hey Janice, it looks like Isaac is going to turn into a formidable storm. I hope people will heed any warnings that may be issued as a result of the storm. People can be pretty ignorant sometimes. Hey to everyone else. I just read something interesting in my local paper. I don't know if you heard on the news about the train derailment in Ellicott City, MD that killed 2 girls. That train passed through Cumberland on the way there. Another train derailed in Cumberland that same night but it was only a few cars and they remained upright. That’s kind of creepy! There’s a CSX rail yard in Cumberland so we have a lot of trains. Take care, everyone. Margie
