Power back on for us, but hesitant to celebrate

I hope you had a great weekend. We certainly had a lot to celebrate in our home. Power was restored by some fine lines-men and their bucket trucks from California on Friday. I posted this picture on twitter, and told my husband if I was home, I would’ve hugged and kissed them in person! I don’t think he would’ve minded.
There are still thousands of people in our area that don’t have power. It has been a very slow process for many of our friends and colleagues that don’t have a home to go to. It does seem like things are getting a little better day by day, but I continue to pray for them and their families until they are back on their feet.
The neighborhood that we live in was hit hard in some spots. We took a few pictures of the enormous trees that were uprooted and fell onto homes:
My boys went trick or treating as I mentioned in an earlier blog, but it certainly wasn’t the same. Every other street had yellow tape blocking it off. Matthew and Theodore didn’t seem to notice too much, but you could tell all of the parents were walking around in kind of a daze. My husband and I thought it was important for the kids to get out in their costumes to break up some of the monotony of not having power and being cooped up in the house for days.
Here’s the picture of me seeing my little ones for the first time in many days (I wasn’t able to get home, and we were into wall-to-wall coverage of the storm). It’s hard to see this picture without crying.
I joked this morning that I still carry the flashlight in my purse every day, and am hesitant to get rid of it. It’s like my new “lipgloss”. It might just be there for good. A bit of a reminder that we always need to be prepared.
Meanwhile, there’s a hint on a couple of computer models that we might have another coastal storm before Thanksgiving next week. Sigh. I will continue to watch it, and let everyone know what we’re dealing with as we head into the weekend.
Once again, thanks for all your tweets/blog comments of support. It’s a beautiful day here in New York. I’m sure a lot of New Yorkers don’t have time to enjoy it. There’s too much work ahead for them.
