    Major Storm hitting the Plains/Midwest

    Hi everyone!

    Busy day in the weather center as we get closer to Christmas, and with millions planning to travel over the next week, we’re in for a doozy of a winter storm across The Central and Eastern U.S!

    High Wind Warnings are posted for portions of New Mexico, Texas and Oklahoma, while Blizzard Warnings are in effect for northeastern Colorado, northwestern Kansas, and southeastern Nebraska:

    Winter Storm Warnings also extend from Colorado to Wisconsin, where 5-10″ of snow is possible, with locally heavier amounts over 12″. 

    The system will move into the Midwest on Thursday, spreading rain and snow across the region.

    The potential for strong to severe storms will exist across the mid-to-lower Mississippi Valley today, then shift farther into the Southeast on Thursday.  Hail and damaging winds are the primary concerns, however isolated tornadoes are possible.  

    And look at how cold it gets tonight as the storm pushes east pulling down arctic air from Canada:

    And finally, yet another system moves into the Pacific Northwest today, spreading valley rain and mountain snow into the region.  

    I guess the good part of this is many people will see a white Christmas this year, and I’m sure the skiers are excited for a little fresh powder!

    In the meantime, please keep prayers coming for our buddy Don who is still in the hospital.   We miss his comments with his wonderful sense of humor.

I just had a short phone call from Don and they have done the procedure today and he just woke up and they gave him a daludin (strong)to sleep, he sounded better then he is, wants all to know he is still among the living! It is 6:45PM PST AJ

Thanks J D for the mph do it you way we like it. Maybe we this you speaking of Don knox haha or knox county which is mine . we got it coming praying Power stay on. Speaking Of Praying Don't write on the blog a lot. but I had Don on my daily Pray list for so long & will not stop now . putting a issue in God hands. Do not be afraid FOR GOD IS ALREADY THERE. Hi Gang, just to let you know I haven't heard anything from Don, since yesterday afternoon, when they had cancelled putting the tube in his back into his kidney and didn't understand if it was cancelled for good or just at that time...all we can do is just pray he is comfortable..xoAJ

Hello again. That 60 foot piece of dock torn loose in the Japanese eartquake and tsunami has reached us and is lodged on the beach about 35 miles north of me. It is between La Push and the mouth of the Hoh River. No roads in so I suppose surveyors will be helicoptered in. From the picture I've seen, there could be a chance of it drifting in and out with the tides until it really gets lodged good. Supposed to get high winds on the coast tonight.

Good afternoon from the WA coast. 37 here, thunder and lightning storm in progress and high winds expected. For the skiers, White Pass got 18" snow yesterday, 3" so far today and expecting 2" tomorrow. Snow pack is 97"up high, 72" midslope and 43" on lower end. Powder up high, icy down below. You all have a good Christmas (if I don't get back on here)!!

Hi J.D. and bloggers: Busy time of the year. My husband John is going into the hospital on Thurs. a.m. for a stent in one of the coronary arteries. He is a little apprehensive, but I am sure he will do o.k. We're bracing for some of that snow that will hit the Chicago area. Hopefully it will be just pretty and not too difficult to navigate around in. Blessings on all as you celebrate Christmas. Enjoy your family time. Audrey

Glad to hear that Don is improving. Windy here in Central Texas and supposedly getting quite cooler this evening. JD, just saw your weather bit with Megyn. I enjoy watching you two together on air. One can easily see the respect and admiration you two have for each other. I hope all have a great hump day. JB

Hi all. I have to say Yes it is windy in Texas!! My husband had to grab me from the wind and I am no skinny Minnie. ha ha It is 73 and they say tonight going down down down. Glad to hear Don is doing a littler better. Hope all are well. PJ

Janice, You used the term "knots an hour" on air this morning. The correct term is just "knots". The word "knots", is defined as nautical miles per hour", so it's redundant to include another "per hour" to it. Don't even get me started on BTU's per hour. Bill "C" Day
