  • Feels like winter across the West, spring over the East!

    Happy Friday All!

A busy day in weather with a tale of two storms!  One side is the winter storm with bitter cold temperatures…the other side of the country has temperatures soaring over 25 degrees above average with rain and flooding!  Wacky!

So the “springlike” storm that brought close to a foot of rain and tornadoes across the Gulf Coast is pushing into the Ohio Valley and Great lakes bringing mainly rain to the region.

Meanwhile, a more potent winter storm across the west will bring close to 2 feet of snow, strong winds and blizzard conditions to many states.

Ahead of this western storm, temperatures will be close to 30 degrees above average with record highs forecast for many Midwest and southern states.  Behind the storm, temperatures will be 25 degrees below average.

Of course, what goes up must come down, so we won’t see those springtime highs for long!  Enjoy it while it’s here!

Hope you’re all doing well.   Get that flu shot if you haven’t already, and have a great weekend!

Janice, I saw your report about the snow storm in the west which brings up my question. Why is it when there is a lot of snow people can't drive to work but can drive to the ski lodge?

Janice, If you are not aware, Sat., Jan. 12 is the 125th anniversary of "The Blizzard of the Schoolchildren". Check it out as it might be worth 'chatting' a bit about. It is immortalized on the walls of the Nebraska State Capitol. Unseasonably warm that day...and as they say, the rest is history. Believe it or not, warmish here today in Omaha & my daisies are growing! Lucky for us the BIG storm of Jan. 2013 appears as though it will be staying off to our west and north. Blessings ~ Ann

Sunny and cold today. I drove out to fix a wiring problem at my daughters house out by the beach. Road looked mostly dry but I hit a little patch of black ice and almost lost it! Don, people drive to a ski lodge vs work due to snow because: One can go to work anytime, Ski lodges and slopes have limited availability. Getting really high tides this week. Just a regular high series we get about this time every year.

Hey folks, I just wanted to say hello to cover up the spam. Spam seems to be picking up a little lately. Hey Sam, I'm glad you survived your skid on the ice. It's really scary when you suddenly lose control of your car. I'm glad you're ok. We had a lot of rain yesterday. It seemed to be raining for most of the day. There wasn't anything too heavy & we wound up with about 1/4 in. I hope everyone has a great weekend! Margie

JD - have you done any research on Japan's meltdowns and how the rads from this were carried to the U.S. on the jetstream? The hot weather on the eastern seaboard correlates with the jetstream. Record-breaking weather ever since Japan's meltdowns. Check out E N E N E W S (dot) c o m to learn a lot more.

Part of my family lived in Kotzebue AK; 30 miles north of Arctic Circle so I follow weather up there. OTZ.net/webcam/html or just otz webcam if anyone interested. 22 degrees right now, 40 mph wind, snowing, and wind chill minus 8. Days up there are getting really short! There is a radio on the site too that is interesting. It is used as a post office, message center, social facilitator, etc and even has some programming in the native Eskimo language. Station is KOTZ.

I think it's time to post something to cover up the spam again. So much for the spam filter blocking URLs. Anyway, hey to all the regular bloggers! Sam, when I checked it was 27 in Kotzebue--heat wave! Actually, that's a lot warmer than I would expect areas around the Arctic Circle to be this time of year. We're only 20 degrees warmer than that. We have fog this morning. We had a high of 56 yesterday & it's supposed to be warmer than that today. Take care, everyone! Margie

Evening all! Rainy and turning colder in MySouth. It's been 75 degrees for the last several days. Now, back to 40 degree days. It's been such a busy week...been keeping 3 of the 5 grands. Their Mom got back from California today, so we the house is quiet tonight...a little too quiet. Hope all have had a blessed Sunday. Don, I would never try to drive in the snow...either to work or to a ski lodge. Southerners CANNOT drive in snow! Y'all have a good evening! Gwen :)
