  • Freezing rain and ice across the South

    Hi All!

    Happy Friday everyone!

We’ve got a busy weather day across the country with a  dangerous, icy situation for the south.  With sub-freezing air in place at the surface, freezing rain is expected from Arkansas through the Tennessee Valley and into northern Alabama, North Georgia and the Carolinas.  Accumulations of up to 1/4″ are possible and roads, especially bridges will become particularly hazardous.

As the system pushes eastward, light snow will bring a few inches of snow to the Mid-Atlantic with even lighter accumulations into the Northeast.  Higher snowfall amounts are expected in the Appalachians.

Meanwhile, a fast-moving system that brought snow to the Midwest overnight is diving through the Great Lakes and spreading snow into the Ohio Valley.  Lake-effect prone regions in Michigan will see enhanced snowfall on the backside of the system.

As far as the cold temperatures, the arctic air that has gripped the Upper Midwest, Great Lakes and Northeast will moderate a bit over the weekend, bringing above average tempertures for a brief time.  Don’t get used to it, because another frigid airmass is expected to move back into the region next week!

At least the winter hasn’t been boring!

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Read about the whimps in Richmond from a news release I just received. RICHMOND TIMES-DISPATCH Some Richmond-area schools will close early today because of snow expected to arrive in the region this afternoon, according to school officials. Chesterfield County Public Schools will close two hours early and all after-school activities are cancelled. At noon time the snow hasn't even started yet.

Hi, guys! It's been such a busy week. I'll be glad when January is over. Too much to do in the payroll department! JD, you are the most beautiful wookie I've ever seen! My 2 older sons were great Star Wars fans and can make awesome Chewbacca noises. Thoughts & prayers for Don. I do hope all goes well at Hopkins. Lovely day in MySouth...was near 70. Very different from last week...we had 3" of snow. Glad the freezing rain is north of here. Happy B'day, Matthew! Catch y'all later! :)

Hey folks. It's been pretty quiet on this blog lately. Since no one posted anything today on this thread, I thought I'd say hello. We got about 4 inches of snow yesterday. It was cold so the snow was really light and fluffy. I swept it off my sidewalk instead of shoveling. The college closed early so I got home before the heaviest snowfall. I went to the campus this morning because it's so pretty and I wanted to get some good snow pictures. I hope everyone is safe & warm. Take care, all. Margie

Hey folks, it was a slow weekend on the blog, I see. I figured I'd post one last thing before this thread expires. The college opens 2 hours late today because of ice. My windshield is covered with ice and the street doesn't look much better. I hope it warms up soon! Have a great day, everyone! Margie
