Well the big weather story is the dangerous Nor’easter that could bring historic snowfall across new England. Not only snow, but rain, and relentless wind will pound the region over the next 24 hours.
Yes, I realize the Northeast does deal with Nor’easters from time to time, but the big problem with this storm is it’s going to be affecting areas that were destroyed by Hurricane Sandy. People are scared right now. Line ups are long at the gas lines and grocery stores. There will be power outages, and the temperatures are dropping well below freezing for the next few days. This is a dangerous storm. I get that people in other areas of the country think that we’re spending too much time on the big cites across the Northeast, but when you have blizzard warnings up for 23 million people, it’s hard to ignore.
The worst of the storm will pound the region this evening and overnight. Blizzard warnings extend from New York through Long Island all the way up to the Canadian border of Maine.
Winds will gust over 60 mph creating white out conditions and drifting snow that will continue through Saturday night. Coastal flood warnings extend all along the coast where surge will cause flooding especially at high tide. A lot of these natural barriers along the coast were destroyed by Hurricane Sandy, so flooding is imminent.
10-14 inches of snow is expected around New York city with locally higher amounts north and west of the city:
Some areas of new England will see up to 2 feet while west of Boston could get closer to 3 feet when all is said and done. If that happens, it will be a record for the city of Boston:
We do have a storm system from the West that is going to push into the Central U.S. this weekend and bring the threat for severe weather across the Southern Plains, so we’ll watch that as it develops.
Have a great weekend everyone. Be safe, and hug the ones you love!
