  • Midwest Floods...

    Hi everyone!

It happens every spring, but that doesn’t make it any easier.  As the wet weather moves in and the snow melts, rivers are starting to swell and overtop their banks across the Midwest…

Here’s a look at all the rain we’ve received since Wednesday.  Some cities are seeing their “top 5″ wettest Aprils:

Flood warnings are up for close to a dozen states from all the rain, and with another system on the way, many cities are bracing for another tough week ahead:

The next storm system moving in from the Northwest is going to bring not only rain, but the dreaded 4 letter word again this week: SNOW!

There’s also the slight risk for severe weather tomorrow:

And much of the country is feeling below average temperatures!

Hard to believe we’re into the last weeks of April, and I’m still wearing heavy layers in the morning!

I hope you’re all doing well despite a terrible week of news.  Lets hope this week is quieter, and we all are kind to our neighbours, families, coworkers and friends. JD

I live in the Illinois River Valley where it does not flood every year. If the flood reaches its potential it will be higher in some places than the record set in 1943. I'm more concerned about flooding in the wetlands wildlife refuge, the levees, the historic bridges, and the rail tracks that must be rebuilt than I am the inconvenience of flooding. For those of us who live on the river, it is what it is. There is not generally any big weather surprise from year to year.

Living in Southern California has its advantage. I live at the beach, if I want to go to the snow I can get there in the San Bernardino Mountains in about 1 1/2 hour drive. If I want to spend time in the desert it is a 2 hour drive. Other then that California is worthless, literally. Its broke, everything is triple the cost of prices in the MidWest, gas prices now "down" to $4.00 a gallon. So Janice Dean please find me a nice place to stay and I'll move. Seriously.
