  • Floods, strong storms and heat across the Southwest

    Hi everyone!

A lot of weather to talk about this weekend, so let’s get to it:

A system moving into the Southeast will spread thunderstorms and several inches of rain across the region over the weekend.  Strong to severe storms with large hail, damaging winds, and isolated tornadoes will develop on the southern side of the system from the Big Bend of Texas through the Lower Mississippi Valley into the Tennessee Valley.

Flood warnings remain posted from the Midwest southward along the Mississippi River, as will be the case over the coming week.

Precipitation over the Midwest will remain light over the next few days, but rivers across the South will rise with this weekend’s additional rainfall and runoff.

Heavier rain will return to the Midwest mid-to-late next week.  This won’t be welcome news for all the residents in and around the Mississippi River and the streams and rivers that feed into it:

Flooding will also be of increasing concern in North Dakota and Minnesota as temperatures soar into the 60 and 70s, forcing rapid snow melt across the area.

The Red River and its tributaries will rise significantly by the middle to end of next week, with a 38 foot crest forecast in Fargo (2 feet below record).

And summertime has arrived across the Desert Southwest already with many locations expected to see their first 100+ degree temperatures this weekend into the beginning of the week.

Hope you’re all having a wonderful weekend!  It’s an absolutely beautiful day here in the Northeast.  Enjoy it while it lasts…things could get wet and cooler the beginning week of May!

Audrey from Indiana

Hi all: I am back again after having husband John in the hospital and rehab for therapy for a total of 50 days. He is glad to be home and is beginning to regain his strength. Weather today is simply beautiful with lots of sunshine and warmer temps around 70 degrees. We do expect some rain again next week. For those who have suffered flooding in the Chicago area, I am sure that is not good news. Hope all of you are well and enjoying this week-end. Audrey
