    Hi everyone

We’re taking some time off next week…because my little brother is getting married!   Congratulations to Craig and his beautiful bride-to-be Liz!  The boys will be part of the ceremony, so I’ll be sure to post some pictures!

In the meantime, I’ve scheduled some “OPEN BLOGS” to hopefully post while I’m at the “Beach” ;)

    Have a great week, all!

  • Severe storms, wildfires and a SUPERMOON

    Janice Dean | Meteorologist

    Hi all!

First off, thank you for the kind words about my upcoming Children’s Book ”Freddy the Frogcaster” (and THANK YOU to those of you who have already ordered a copy!)  I am so excited for the upcoming release this August.  Once it’s out, I’d love to hear what you think about it – with your own reviews!

Meanwhile, we’ve got lots of weather happening.  Can you believe yesterday was the first day of summer? Seem like we were just talking about snow and winter storms (although in some cases across the country, it literally was only a few weeks ago we WERE talking about late spring snow!)

We’re expecting more strong to severe storms across the Plains,  Midwest and the Great Lakes. Not only large hail, strong winds and a tornado or two, but heavy rain is also expected.  Some areas have gotten over 6 inches of rain with much more in the forecast today and tomorrow.

A frontal boundary will bring the threat for scattered storms along the Southeast Coast back into the Gulf Coast states through the weekend, while a warm up is in store for the Northeast with temperatures pushing near 90 tomorrow for many.

And it’s still dry and hot across the West.  Gusty winds will mean the potential for more wildfire danger in the Southwest where red flag warnings are up, and we currently have over two dozens fires burning!

Meanwhile,   Get ready to HOWL at the MOON tonight!  A “supermoon” will be in full view overnight.   Tonight is a little different than your normal run of the mill “Full Moons” because it will be slightly closer to Earth than it typically is – therefore it will look BIGGER and BRIGHTER than normal.

The moon will pass within about 221,000 miles from the Earth on Saturday night, compared with its “typical” distance of about 238,000 miles.

All this talk about the Moon has me thinking about my favorite songs with the word “Moon” in it…

Moon River, Harvest Moon, Dark Side of the Moon, Blue Moon, Man on the Moon…

Can you think of any others?

    Have a great weekend everyone!

  • Freddy the Frogcaster!

    Janice Dean | Meteorologist

    Good morning everyone!

I have happy news to announce!  No, I’m not pregnant…nor will I be appearing on Dancing with the Stars, but it’s still pretty darn exciting…

I have a Children’s Book coming out in August that I am so proud of.  It’s called Freddy the Frogcaster and  it’s a fun little story about a Frog who loves to Forecast!

    Here’s the cover:

Over the years, people have asked me for suggestions on weather books for kids…and there really wasn’t a lot to choose from, so I thought what the heck – I’ll write one myself!

Russ Cox was my incredible illustrator that brought little Freddy to life.  He literally HOPS right off the page!  Regnery Kids are the wonderful publishers.

This is a dream come true – and I’m so glad I get to share it with all of you!

Here’s a link to the Amazon page (which I still have to pinch myself to believe!)

I will let you know more details and the publishing date gets closer!
