  • Heat relief, severe storms, wildfires and...comedy?!?

    Hi everyone.

Lots to cover including a night of comedy for yours truly, so lets get to it!

We’re finally going to get some sweet heat relief across the northeast as a pretty powerful summertime cold front slices through the intense temperatures we’ve been experiencing!

The price we pay may be in the form of strong to severe storms for the area this afternoon and tonight from D.C to Boston:

In advance of the cold front, we still have heat advisories up where it feels close to or above 100 degrees!

There’s also the chace of scattered thunderstorms – some which could turn severe over the Northern and Central Plains this afternoon and evening.

The southeast continues to get soaked this weekend as tropical moisture streams in.  A disturbance in the Gulf of Mexico will keep things wet along the coast and Florida. Flooding rainfall, gusty winds and hail are also possible.

And scattered showers and thunderstorms are in the forecast across the Southwest, Great Basin and Southern Rockies.  Heavy rain, gusty winds and lightning are possible throughout the weekend in these areas.  There are many wildfires that continue to burn over this area, so the threat for thunderstorms is a double edged sword.  The moisture and cooler temperatures is wonderful news, but because it’s so dry out West, the lightning can spark more wildfires or spread the ones that are currently burning:

And now for the personal stuff!

Over the last few weeks I’ve been rehearsing for an event that’s coming up tomorrow night at  here in NYC.  It’s New York’s Funniest Reporter contest.  Last year our own Clayton Morris won the coveted title, and this year I was asked to participate.  I have to say, it’s been a really fun thing to prepare for!  I’m extremely nervous, but it’s for a good cause (The Humane Society), and my husband and I will get to have a date night!  (something we have not had in months!)  So wish me luck, and I will fill you in on what happens Monday!

    Have a great weekend everyone!

Hey folks, I just posted a few photos of my Maryland Eastern Shore trip on my blog. If you want to see some of the great critters at the Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge, here's the link (you'll have to put in the correct punctuation where the word dot is since Janice's blog doesn't allow links): throughmylens-margie dot blogspot dot com. Hopefully this will post correctly. When you go to my blog, you can sign up for e-mail notification when I post new photos. Check it out! Margie

Hi guys! JD, heard you killed it! Congrats! We knew you were a winner even before the show. Temps for MS haven't been too bad yet this Summer. We've had lots of rain that have kept them down. We may get into the mid and upper 90s later this week. Of course, the humidity here is a killer. Almost time for our kiddies to start back to school. Can y'all believe that my twin grands (Hunter & Alli) will start kindergarten? So hard to believe! My how time slips away! Catch y'all later! :)

Hey Sam! 75 is too hot to weed the garden??? I just came back from the Eastern Shore of Maryland where the temperatures were in the upper 90's each day I was there with heat indices of 103+ degrees. Now that's too hot for just about everything! My cousin & I went to the Blackwater Natl. Wildlife Refuge & saw bald eagles, great blue herons, osprey, white egrets & more. What a great place! Visited some of the cute little towns on the Eastern Shore--so charming! Take care, everyone! Margie

62 degrees at 3pm pdt but feels like 75. Too hot to weed the garden. Tide is wrong for going fishing, I should have gone this morning. Wasn't much of a tide though, only a runout of 8.4 feet. I hired a guy to prep my house to paint. He came at 8am and hasn't stopped all day. He usually works for a contractor friend of mine but works extra (Big family!). You all take care! Stay safe.
