  • Big Storm for the NW, National Coffee Day, and my trophy came!

    Janice Dean | Meteorologist

    Hi all!

A quick weekend post.  We’re watching bigtime rain/flooding across the Northwest this weekend.

I will have a full report tomorrow on the rainfall totals…today and tonight will be the worst of this storm, and then by Wednesday things should improve, but it has been a rough few days for our friends across parts of Washington, Oregon, Northern California and Idaho!

We’ve also seen flooding rain over parts of Texas this weekend.  Some areas around San Antonio and Austin received over 4 inches of rain in just a matter of hours.

Incase you missed it, I was up early for Fox and Friends celebrating National Coffee Day.   Dunkin Donuts were kind enough to bring me my own box of coffee and many donuts to keep me energized through the show:

And my NY Funniest Reporter Contest Trophy came Friday!

I will proudly display it right next to my bowling prizes!  (LOL)   I wish it came with a matching sash and tiara!  :)

Talk to you all Monday!  Enjoy the rest of the weekend…

    Janice Dean | Meteorologist

    Hi everyone!

Consider this an Open Blog…but I also wanted to include the link to a great article Meghan Sharp of Fox News Magazine wrote last week on Freddy the Frogcaster!

    Check it out!

    Have a great day!

  • Weekend Weather

    Janice Dean | Meteorologist

    Happy weekend everyone!

A quick update on what’s happening outside…I had to forecast two wedding this weeknd.  One of them in New Jersey, the other in Arkansas.  I’m pretty confident about my Arkansas forecast, but New Jersey was tough since we’ve got this cold front on our doorstep.  Hopefully the rain will hold off until after the photos are taken at 6:30! (Fingers crossed)

We do have heavy rain in the forecast for the South as that same cold front that is moving in the Northeast stretches down into the Gulf Coast states pulling up deep tropical moisture from the Gulf.

1-3 inches is possible from Louisiana through Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia.

Flood watches and warnings are in effect.

Ultimately this is good news for an area that has been dry for sometime.

Showers and thunderstorms will push into the Northeast through West Virginia today and then across the 1-95 corridor tonight/tomorrow bringing temperatures back down to 5-15 degrees below average on Monday.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms will be widespread from the Northwest through Northern California into Sunday

And we’re also watching Typhoon Usagi- the strongest typhoon to hit Asia this year as it barrels towards Hong Kong (population over 7 million people!)  The storm should weaken before it moves ashore, however, strong hurricane force winds, flooding rain and storm surge has put that region under high alert.

That’s it from here.  Hope you’re all having a great weekend!  Let me know what you’re up to!

  • "Largest helicopter mission since Katrina"

    Janice Dean | Meteorologist

    Good morning everyone.

It seems like the news is full of tragedy this morning.  With the Washington Naval Yard shooting, our television coverage is now very focused on this developing situation.

However, I still want to bring attention to the unbelievable rescue mission that is underway in Colorado.   This is now being called the largest civilion helicopter mission since Hurricane Katrina.

There are hundreds of people that are still trapped by theis catastrophic, historic flooding.  The latest number is staggering:  1,200 people remain  unaccounted for.  State officials are trying to ramp up the rescue efforts today.  This is going to mean recruitment of people and methods to find survivors; not to mention money to keep this mission running.

A spokesperson for the Colorado Office of Emergency Management says that cash donations are the best way to support survivors.

If you want to find out how you can help, here are several links you can click on to find out how:

As always, our thoughts and prayers are with those that are in need of help, and their families who are still searching for loved ones.
