  • More extreme cold, and snow for the DEEP SOUTH!

    Hi everyone!

I was at a big event yesterday in Philadelphia which I will post pictures of this week.  It was the American Library Associations Mid-winter Meeting, and I went to sign and promote Freddy the Frogcaster to teachers and Librarians across the country.  The event was enormous, and I met so many great people; many of whom will be proudly displaying Freddy in their local libraries.  Ribbit!

And today, I’m back at work covering another powerful arctic front that will bring cold rivaling what we felt in early January.  This front will not only drop temperatures to freezing over the Gulf Coast, but bring a rare winter storm from Texas to South Carolina is brewing tonight through Wednesday.

Another wintry commute has Houston, Texas on alert for Tuesday morning.  Tuesday night snow is possible from Louisiana (including NOLA) up into North Carolina.

Cities like Houston, New Orleans, Mobile, Atlanta, Charlotte, Raleigh, Myrtle Beach and Wilmington could all see accumulating snow!

Meanwhile, arctic air will bring below zero high temperatures and dangerous wind chills to the Midwest, Great Lakes, Ohio Valley and Northeast.

Across the West, that dominant ridge of high pressure remains stalled for the next few days with warm and dry conditions for most of the region. Record warmth is possible for California

And, we’re still  a few days out from a solid forecast, but so far Superbowl Sunday looks pretty good (for New Jersey in early February!)   Temperatures could be at or even above average.  We could have a little bit of snow/rain on Saturday, but that should be gone by Sunday morning!  YAY!

    Be safe and warm everyone.

Dan, you're bad! It's dopey that the spam filter blocked my post, not that the anatomy is dopey! You just gave me a big laugh! Sometimes the spam filter does not make sense. It lets spam posts in but blocks posts from the regulars. I see Sam's post appeared from yesterday. I think I know what word caused it to be sucked into the vortex of the spam filter. Can't say it though, because it will block my post, too. I hope Sam comes back! Margie

Hi Sam, I'm seconding Margie's remark that you not quit this great blog! You would most certainly be missed. However, Ms. Gacki, I must also call you on your remark about the "male anatomy being a dopey thing" Is not!!! Just kidding, of course! Hope that all are doing well, staying safe and warm. Dan

Don't quit, Sam! We'll miss you! Did you have a link in your post that didn't show up? The blog is set up to supposedly block posts with links, although I've seen some spam make it through. You could also have used a word that was blocked. The spam filter is picky. I found out out a few years ago that I couldn't write about a certain town in MD because part of the word could be used as a slang word for a part of the male anatomy. Dopey thing! Hang in there! While snow and ice is a rarity in the south, it does happen. Atlanta's average snowfall is about an inch per year. It's rare that there is such a potent winter storm with bitter cold air to follow. I live in Green Bay, Wisconsin, but grew up in Kentucky. From what I'm hearing up here in the upper Midwest, this has been one of the worst winters they've seen in a long time. On my website, I do mention what has been causing the extreme cold.

If anyone out there sees my post from yesterday, please send it home. I guess it is out there in la-la land. Be safe, I quit.

Sure didn't take long for the idiot spammer to show up. Hey to all the regular bloggers out there. Just posting a quick hello so you don't see the spam the first thing. I hope everyone is staying warm! Take care, all. Margie
