  • Strong storms for the Ohio Valley, heating up the Southeast

    Good morning everyone!

Weather is fairly quiet today with a few exceptions.  There’s a system moving through the Ohio Valley that will bring the threat of strong storms.  Damaging winds and hail are the primary concerns:

Afternoon thunderstorms and dry conditions will keep the wildfire threat elevated from Northern California into the Northwest.  Meanwhile, across the Southwest the Monsoon season is bringing more wet weather across the four corners where flash flooding will be a concern:

Over the next several days, temperatures will warm to above-average readings from the Plains through the Southeast, and eventually the Midwest by the end of the week.  Temperatures will be 5-15 degrees above average.  This will be the longest stretch of hot weather we’ve seen for much of the summer for many!

Hope you’re all doing well – I have to tell you my latest book Freddy the Frogcaster and the Big Blizzard is about to arrive in stores and online.  I should be getting my first copies very soon, and I will share a picture when they arrive.  I’m so excited (I think this one is even better than the first!)

    Have a wonderful Tuesday!

    JD

Hi, Janice and the Weather Machine Gang! I think I'll buy and read "Freddy the Frogcaster" when it becomes available here in Santa Monica. I found August to be a great time for reading when I was in college. I used to go to the old library in Riverside, Illinois and read all day in August. I loved it there! It wasn't air-conditioned but it was cool. And quiet. And only a short bike ride from my home. Read many great American novels. William Faulkner was my favorite! Those were the days....

Congratulations to Sam and Barb on their 48th and JB and his missus on their 33rd..and to JD on her upcoming newest Freddy book. We had a few raindrops and lots of thunderboomers, not enough to help Margie hope your wounds are healing quickly and painless. AJ

Happy 48th Anniversary to Sam and his missus! My wife and I recently had our 33rd. Most of her friends and family sent her sympathy cards. Hope all are well. JB

Hey Sam, I'm glad one of your messages went through. This blog can be a pain with the way posts disappear. Don't give up though because we'd miss you if you stopped posting! Margie

Test send. 5 wouldn't go so far, this will be the last try. I changed from IE to Google Chrome and have been having problems, Time to rethink? I think it may be the way Chrome brings up the email address, it highlights it in yellow. This one I typed all in myself. We'll see. Sam

Hey JB, I hope you stay cool in that hot weather! We've warmed up this week but nothing like your temperatures. My other kitty is named Freckles. My friend Susanna named him that and I haven't changed it. Since Houdini is a little escape artist, I thought that would be a good name for him. I had to get a tetanus shot Monday. I forget which one it was that buried his claws into my knee when he wanted to play. Drawing blood is not a good way to get someone to play! Take care, all. Margie

Looking forward to the release of Freddy and the Blizzard(not buzzard). Good timing since it is sweltering outside, reading about a blizzard seems comforting.Margie, did you name the other kitten yet? I know you named one Houdini, but missed if you named the other one. Just saw our 7 day forecast here. 5 days with 99 for a high and 2 with 98 predicted. I guess the local weather guy is afraid his ratings will sink if he forecasts triple digits. Take care all, JB
