  • Hitting the peak of tropical season!

    Hi everyone!

Can you believe we’re into the last week of August?   Holy Moly.  This time next week my Matthew will be getting ready to go to KINDERGARTEN!   I’m trying to prepare myself for this momentous occasion by stocking up on school supplies AND tissues (for me!)

In weather-land, next week we head into peak season for the tropical Atlantic.

We’ve had a very quiet season so far with three named storms (all of which were upgraded to hurricanes).

Here’s where we typically see development in September:

Notice the area across the Atlantic which is typically where we see the most intense hurricanes of the year since there’s a lot of warm water to travel through.  A couple of the computer models are hinting a tropical wave off the coast of Africa this weekend that we’ll have to monitor.  We’re also watching a stalled front that could producer something a little more home-grown over the Gulf of Mexico.

The Old Farmers Almanac released their 2015 outlook last week.  Here are a couple of highlights, but bear in mind that these are LONG RANGE predictions, and anything outside of a five day forecast is pretty impossible to forecast:

Here’s what NOAA is looking at over the next 3 months for temperature and precipitation:  (Above average, below average and = is equal chance of above or below average)

I hope your summer has been great so far.   I’ll check in again on Friday -  I’ll be doing weather for Fox and Friends, so tune in if you can!

Hey Everyone! Hope everyone is having a good week. Dan, I hope the earth isn't moving under your feet anymore! I do remember that Carole King song. I find myself singing it from time to time. We actually had a small earthquake a couple years ago. Thankfully, nothing anywhere near as bad as the quakes California gets. Things have heated up here this week. It's been hot and humid. Yuck! Have a great rest of the week, everyone! Margie

Dan, Glad to hear you survived the aftershocks and didn't lose any beauty sleep. I don't worry about those things any more. I go to sleep ugly and wake up the same way. I do remember Carol King's "I Feel the Earth Move" from her Tapestry album/CD. Still listen to it occasionally. Hope all are well. JB

Hi Everybody. Thanks for your concern and good wishes after Sunday's earthquake! Nature's alarm clock went off again this morning at 5:39 a.m. with a 3.9 aftershock which caused additional damage in Napa. Unlike Margie and Sam, I cannot afford to lose beauty sleep! I'm not sure why, but I can't stop humming Carol King's "I feel the earth move under my feet" song from soooooo many years ago. Hmm, perhaps I'm the only one on here that's old enough to remember? Take care and be safe - Dan
