  • Southern snow and ice and the West gets hit hard

    Hi everyone!

Happy weekend.  There is a lot of weather happening over the next few days, so let’s get to it!

A storm system bringing mainly light snow is exiting the Northeast this morning, but a more dangerous storm is getting its act together down south with heavy snow and ice for areas that don’t typically get a lot of winter weather.

Winter storm warnings are in place from Atlanta up into the Midatlantic including the Atlanta area where people are being told to have emergency supplies at the ready over the weekend.

Meanwhile, freezing temperatures have moved as far south as the Gulf Coast:

And more heavy rain and feet of snow are expected across the West.  Flash flooding will be a big concern through the weekend.

Be safe everyone!  Have a wonderful weekend.

Great seeing all the activity here. Sam, glad the chemo is done and we are all praying and hoping for good health results for you in 2017(also for everyone else). Dan, hope y'all don't get flooded out where you are. We had a cold weekend here but a warming trend starts tomorrow. I heard they had the Golden Globe Awards tonight which surprised me since I though everyone in Hollywood was moving out of the country after the election! Oh well, one can always hope. Later all, JB

Hey Dan! Great seeing you on the blog! I've been thinking about you. I hope you are doing well. Sorry to hear you're getting so much rain at once. Too much of a good thing can be a bad thing sometimes! I hope you don't have any major flooding. It's been super cold and windy here this weekend. It only got up to 22 today and it's supposed to go down to single digits tonight. Yuck! Take care, everyone! Margie

Sonoma Dan

Hi to all the regulars from soggy Sonoma County! This weather is incredible - it rained so hard last night that it kept waking me up. Today, the heavy rain continues high winds and some forecasters are predicting up to 15 inches of rain by Wednesday. We need the rain, but not all at one time! I made a huge pot of soup and a pan of biscuits so at least I won't starve! Sam, I'm glad that you're done with chemo for a while and I hope that you'll keep getting good reports. Best - Dan

I was reading the weather story about the big storm to hit Yosemite this weekend. They shut the road down through the lower valley today. It also mentioned Sonoma county was in the path of the river of rain and could get up to 8" of rainfall. If so, I hope Dan doesn't get hit too hard. I'd suspect JD may be having a more normal work schedule now that she is helping out with Fox and Friends. Still cold here but may warm up next week. Take care, Sam

Hey AJ & Sam! It's good to see someone on the blog. Could do without the spam posts, though. Sam, I'm glad that you're done with chemo for a while. I pray that you'll keep getting good reports. AJ, I hope you get more rain soon. We had a couple rainy days during the week. Glad the moisture came when the temperature was up. We're just missing the coastal storm today. I'm sorry to see Megyn leave. I do like her. I'm looking forward to seeing Greta on TV again. Take care, all & stay safe. Margie

2017 and big changes at a lot of the networks. So far I've been very pleased with Tucker Carlson and will not miss Kelly at all. We are starting out dry and cold so far but have lots of snow on the mountains which bodes well for next summer. I'm off chemo for a while, PET scan showed good results. Will see vascular surgeon Monday to see what can be done to get more blood flow to left leg and foot. I had a CT cardiogram and it looks pretty iffy. Have a good year, be safe.....Sam

This blog has been really quiet lately so I just thought I'd say hello to anyone who may be out there. It's cold here in my neck of the woods. Got down to 17 this morning and I think it's about 21 now. The wind makes it feel colder, though. At least we don't have any snow. Take care, everyone! Margie
