  • The latest on what's left of Harvey, Hurricane Irma and Lidia

Good morning everyone.  Happy Friday.  Hard to believe we’re into the month of September and Labor Day is upon us.

We’ve got a lot to cover in terms of tropical weather.

Harvey’s moisture and circulation will enhance rainfall from Kentucky to the Carolinas.

Generally 2-4” is possible, with isolated amounts closer to 6”. The tornado threat today extends from the Carolinas to eastern KY and TN.

It looks like the Gulf of Mexico will remain quiet this weekend.  The forecast for the Upper Texas Coast/SW Louisiana keeps the region free from heavy rain through next week, with only scattered storm chances late this weekend into early next week.

Hurricane Irma is holding steady as a 115mph hurricane in the open Atlantic.

The official forecast takes an even stronger Irma close to or north of the Lesser Antilles on Wednesday.  Indications are that Irma may be turning slightly northward by then, possibly sparing the Lesser Antilles and Puerto Rico, but it’s too early to know that for sure just yet.

Looking at the 7-11 day timeframe, Irma could threaten both the Bahamas and/or U.S., or even turn and miss land completely,  but it is too early to forecast either with any confidence.

Meanwhile, another vigorous tropical wave has emerged off the coast of Africa, and early indications are that it will develop into a depression or storm early next week.

In the Pacific, we’re watching Lidia that will bring heavy rain to Baja Peninsula in the next few days.

As always, we will monitor this system and all the others in the next few weeks.

    Be safe and prepared.
